Southwest Gas continues line replacement project along Highway 50

To prepare for the $57 million Caltrans project that will start in South Lake Tahoe in 2017, Southwest Gas is continuing their gas-line relocation work along Highway 50 from the "Y" to Al Tahoe Blvd this spring and summer.

The construction work will be completed during both daytime and nighttime hours and Southwest Gas officials told South Tahoe Now there will be no major bottlenecks that were prevalent last summer.

"There will be less lane restrictions and improved traffic flow," said Stephen Miller, of Southwest Gas Corporate Communications.

No service interruptions are anticipated.

Traffic control will be in place near the construction activity to shift traffic away from the work zone; however, access to residences and businesses will be maintained.

Crews will work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until April 15, then starting April 25 work will go 24-hour-a-day until the end of the building season in October, 2016.

Major construction along Highway 50 from Spring 2017 to Winter 2019 will widen the roadway to provide six-foot shoulders for bike lanes, replace traffic signals, replace curb, gutter and sidewalks, and improve pavement cross slope to collect and treat stormwater runoff as part of the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program (EIP). Caltrans is working with he City of South Lake Tahoe to incorporate improvements at Sierra Boulevard with a new signal and left turn lane. The project will also bring a new stop light to the intersection of Lodi Avenue and Highway 50.
