Summer roadwork schedule released for South Lake Tahoe

Event Date:
April 23, 2015 - 6:00pm

It has been joked that there are two seasons in Lake Tahoe, winter and road construction. We escaped the winter portion in 2015, but it appears we will not escape the road construction portion.

There are three maps in this article that show all road projects around the lake, not just the City of South Lake Tahoe projects.

Two major projects will affect travelers on the South Shore: CalTrans will be starting in the next few weeks at the "Y" and working north to Cascade Road. They will be widening the two-lane highway portion of the stretch to provide 4-foot wide paved shoulders; curb, gutter and sidewalk additions in the four lane highway section; a pedestrian-activated beacon and lighting addition at Camp Richardson, new highway pavement surface and stormwater runoff collection and treatment. During the summer the work will be done at night, but around the clock from the start date until mid-June. The project will take two summers and go into the beginning of a third (Summer, 2017).

Southwest Gas will be relocating gas lines from the “Y” to Trout Creek Bridge. They will start in May as well, going until October, 2015. Expect 10 minute delays on Highway 50 during this project.

There will be an informational meeting on these two road projects at the City Council Chambers at the airport on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
