Man arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into two vehicles west of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Pollock Pines man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly driving under the influence and causing a three-vehicle crash on US0 just west of the Sierra-at-Tahoe turnoff.

At 1:20 p.m. on April 20, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was dispatched to the scene after a rollover, head-on collision was reported. The CHP report shows that 37-year-old Zachary Leconte was traveling west in a 2012 Dodge van when he made an unsafe turning movement to the left on the curved portion of the road. Leconte lost control of the Dodge which then traveled into the eastbound traffic lane when it collided with a Toyota Rav-4. The Toyota rolled over and came to a rest on the south shoulder. CHP says the Dodge continued westbound in the eastbound lane when it collided head-on with a Honda CRV.

After the second collision, the Dodge and the Honda came to a rest blocking the eastbound lane.

CHP said the first driver of the Toyota was able to turn away from it being a head-on collision though it did roll over. The couple in the car are from Alviso, Calif., and were on the way to Tahoe for an anniversary celebration. They both had moderate injuries but were not transported to the hospital.

The passenger and driver of the Honda, both 19 years old and from San Jose, were transported to the hospital with major injuries.

Leconte was transported to Barton Hospital with minor injuries and with what appeared to be "objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication." He was arrested and transported to the El Dorado County Jail and faces a felony count of DUI causing bodily injury, and two felony counts of inflicting great bodily injury in the commission of a felony or attempted felony. His bail has been set at $145,000.
