National Drug Take Back Day in South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County

Thousands of communities across the United States will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration “National Drug Take Back” day scheduled for Saturday, April 29 in South Lake Tahoe, Zephyr Cove, and spots in the Carson Valley.

46,000 people a year die from drug overdoses and more than half of those die from prescription opioid overdoses. Four out of five new users of heroin began with abusing prescription opioids.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department and Drug Free Coalition of South Lake Tahoe have partnered to collect every unused, unwanted and expired prescription, along with non-prescriptive medication during Earth Day at Bijou Park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Partnership of Community Resources and East Fork Fire and Paramedic District have partnered together with the DEA to collect every unused, unwanted and expired prescription, along with non-prescriptive medication at the five drop locations from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The locations will be operating from 10 am to 2 pm at Wal-Mart north (3770 Hwy 395 in Carson City). Wal-Greens (1342 Hwy 395, Gardnerville, DCSO Ranchos substation (1281 Kimmerling, Gardnerville) East Fork Fire and Paramedic station #4 (1476 Albite Road, Topaz Ranch Estates), and Safeway grocery store (212 Elks Point Road, Zephyr Cove).

You may also drop off your pet medications and liquid form of medications.
