Lake Tahoe Unified School District holds Facility Master Plan Open House

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) recently held a Facility Master Plan Open House to gather information from community members on what they'd like to see at the LTUSD schools and buildings.

The revised draft Facilities Master Plan was on display with boards dedicated to each school and the district office. Attendees were able to identify multiple priorities by placing stickers on the board. Priorities included improved security at school sites, replacement of non-permanent classrooms, replacement of asphalt in drop-off pick-up areas at school sites, and the modernization of classrooms.

Facilities Planning Advisory Committee (FPAC) members in attendance included parents Melanie Shasha, Robert Haen, and Cristi Creegan; community member Chris Proctor; staff members Bernadette Santana, Jodi Dayberry, Kelly Buttery; and Dave Zebo, LTUSD director of facilities and transportation, as well as Superintendent Student Advisors Mia Valenzuela, Hannah Kelso, Izik Martinez, and Kole Brouwer.

The plan for each site was showcased on poster boards allowing attendees to envision the future of the District. Attendees identified multiple priorities including improved security at school sites, replacement of non-permanent classrooms, replacement of asphalt in drop off pick up areas at school sites, and the modernization of classrooms.

The plan will be presented to the LTUSD Board at their May 9, 2024 board meeting with approval of the final plan possible at their May 23 meeting.

There are significant infrastructure needs at all of the LTUSD campuses and buildings. A bond measure is expected this November that would tax homeowners for the upgrades, something they tried in 2022 but it failed by just .71 percent of the vote. It needed 55 percent to pass, it received 54.29 percent. At that time homeowners would have been taxed $35 per $100,000 in assessed value. At the May 9 meeting, the District's consultants will disclose what should be asked for this year.

The same site poster boards will be available for public viewing at the District Office from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, May 6, and Tuesday, May, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
