Lake Tahoe area roadwork May 6-12

The following are the current California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) road projects in the El Dorado and Placer County areas of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra for the week of May 6 - May 12, 2018.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $22 million project to replace the South Fork American River Bridge in Coloma-Lotus. This project will make seismic improvements to the new bridge, widen the structure to allow for 8-foot shoulders and 6-foot sidewalks, and also make roadway improvements to State Route 49 on either side of the bridge. Completion is expected this summer. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled on the highway.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work has resumed on a $57 million project from the “Y” intersection at State Route 89 to the Trout Creek Bridge in South Lake Tahoe. This project is building new drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater runoff, rebuilding curbs, gutters and sidewalks, widening the highway to allow for bike lanes and resurfacing the roadway. Completion is expected in fall 2019. May 7-11 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Tahoe Keys Boulevard to Sierra Boulevard: Eastbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon. Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work has resumed on a $35 million project in Tahoe City to build a new Truckee River bridge east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard with roundabouts on either end of the realignment, replace the existing Truckee River (Fanny) Bridge, construct a roundabout at the “Wye” intersection and make complete street enhancements to the portion of State Route 89/West Lake Boulevard. May 7-11 - State Route 89 (Placer County) from the Tahoe City Transit Center to the Caltrans Maintenance Yard: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 10 p.m. to noon Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work is set to begin on a $3.6 million multi-use path project that will connect the existing path that ends at Sugar Pine Point State Park to Meeks Bay Resort. Completion is expected this fall. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled on the highway.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Long Ravine underpass to .2 miles east of Magra Road overcrossing: Roadwork continues for a $50.6 million project to construct 3 miles of additional truck climbing lane and other improvements to primarily eastbound I-80 east of Colfax, including widening the Cape Horn undercrossing bridge. No traffic interfering work is scheduled this week.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Gold Run State Rest and Recovery Areas (SRRAs): The EB and WB rest areas will be closed from May 9 to September 30 to bring water delivery and waste water treatment systems into compliance with current State requirements. Construction of a new system, similar to other SRRA locations, will eliminate costs associated with septic tank systems and improve the potable water delivery system.

SHORT-TERM PROJECTS

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Tahoe State Park Drive to Sahara Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Tuesday through Thursday for crack sealing work.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Grove Street to Lardin Way: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Forni Tract to Pyramid Creek Tract: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday for dead tree removal work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) Big Meadow Creek to Portal Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for crack sealing work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Eagle Point Campground to Bayview Campground: Motorists can expect signalized one-way traffic control around the clock for retaining wall work. The project is expected to be completed in late May or early June.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from Live Oak Lane to Hulbert Way: Motorists can expect intermittent left and right lane closures with CHP escorts from midnight to 8 a.m. Sunday for utility work.

State Route 65 (Placer County) from East Roseville Viaduct to .5 miles south of Pleasant Grove Blvd.: Motorists can expect overnight alternating lane closures both EB and WB from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday night through 7 a.m. Saturday for striping work.

Interstate 80 - Eastbound (Placer County) at the Gold Run overcrossing: Motorists can expect full off-ramp closure from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday for drainage work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) from the Nevada Street overcrossing (Maple Street and Placer Street) to the Highway 49 exit: Motorists can expect overnight right lane and shoulder closures and full WB off-ramp to Highway 49 closure from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday night through 7 a.m. Saturday for crack seal operations.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) from Whitmore Maintenance Station to Drum Forebay overcrossing: Motorists can expect alternating left and right lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for miscellaneous work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) at the Rocklin Road undercrossing: Motorists can expect overnight right lane and shoulder closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning for utility work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) from Miners Ravine to Linda Creek: Motorists can expect overnight right lane and shoulder closures from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday for miscellaneous work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) from Auburn/Riverside overcrossing to Lead Hill Boulevard overcrossing: Motorists can expect intermittent, overnight right lane and right shoulder closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday night through Friday morning for core drilling work.

State Route 193 (Placer County) from Old State Highway to Ridge Road: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.
