Fanny Bridge/SR-89 project in full swing, expect delays in Tahoe City

Work resumed May 1 on the SR 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project in Tahoe City, a project that will bring a new Truckee River Bridge, three roundabouts, and street improvements including lights and sidewalks.

The old Fanny Bridge will be replaced with one that has a new bridge rail that matches the original bridge rail, plus there will now be sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides.

To accomplish this project where the Tahoe Transportation District has been the local lead agency, work will take place throughout the week, both day and night. Expect up to 20 minute delays in the area.

Night work is conducted Sunday thru Thursday from 12;00 a.m. – noon.
Day work is conducted Monday thru Friday for road and drainage work.
Bridge work is conducted Monday thru Saturday from 7;00 a.m. – 5;00 p.m.

Construction Schedule Updates:

The Contractor has the following tasks scheduled for this week:

- SR 89 South of Fanny Bridge – utility locating and potholing – traffic control expected.
- Wye Roundabout (SR 28/SR 89 Wye) - Utility locating and potholing – traffic control expected.
- Liberty Utilities will be onsite moving their lines to the new poles near the Caltrans Maintenance Yard Monday through Friday.
- New Truckee River Bridge – construction at both abutments – no traffic impact.

Please note that Traffic Control includes:

- Normal temporary lane closures utilizing flaggers with a maximum 20-minute delay.
- Flaggers are located at parking lot entrances to allow access.
- No businesses will be blocked.
- At the West Roundabout (near the Caltrans Maintenance Yard) K-Rail has been placed with reduced lane widths to 11-ft – same configuration as last year.

Shared-Use Paths for Cyclists and Pedestrians:
- Detours will be set.
- No paths will be closed.

The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration (CFLHD-FHWA) is the lead agency for construction and Martin Brothers Construction is under contract to complete the work.

Construction planned for May 1 through October 15, 2018 (subject to change):

• Complete new SR 89 realignment
• Construct new Truckee River Bridge, located east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard along SR 89 heading into Tahoe City from Truckee
• Construct three new roundabouts
• Complete street improvements within the project area along West Lake Blvd. (SR 89) - new sidewalks, crosswalks, street lights, and street/trail signate
• Replace Fanny Bridge with sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides, including a new bridge rail that will match the existing bridge rail
• Finalize new and/or improved bike and pedestrian paths
• Drainage improvements
• Landscaping
• Install new Tahoe City gateway signage
