Wordwave Festival offers playwright contest for 9th year

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Entries are now open for the 9th Annual WordWave Lake Tahoe One-Act Play Competition. The winners each receive a $500 cash prize and two nights lodging in South Lake Tahoe to see their work directed and produced on stage at the historic Boathouse Theatre at Valhalla Tahoe.

The deadline for entry is July 1, 2024, and plays can be submitted online at valhallatahoe.com/wordwave/. Manuscripts can run at no more than 60 minutes, and writers can enter multiple works. There is a $30 submission fee for each. Winners are notified in August.

WordWave is an annual cultural event for locals and visitors to share their stories, create, and be inspired by the beauty of Lake Tahoe. The underlying principle of WordWave is that stories, when shared with others, change lives. We provide a venue for locals and visitors to experience these shared stories on stage, where the doors open to the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Winners of the playwright contest will be given the opportunity to work with the director and the actors before the performances, scheduled for Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at valhallatahoe.com/wordwave. The Nov. 2 performance will include a writer’s wine and dessert reception for audiences to meet the writers.
