Flash back 50-years with Barton Memorial Hospital

Event Date:
June 29, 2013 - 11:00am

From its beginnings in 1963, South Lake Tahoe residents envisioned a hospital and then built it with their time, energy, contributions and commitment. At times, they “literally” put hammer-to-nail to create the first-ever year-round health care facility at Lake Tahoe – Barton Memorial Hospital. In doing so, these committed individuals and families ensured a better future for future generations and 50-years-later we invite our community to celebrate the hospital’s dedication, growth and future.

Barton Health invites all residents of South Lake Tahoe and our surrounding communities to help celebrate 50 historical years of caring on Saturday, June 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The back corridor of Barton Memorial Hospital’s grounds, at 2170 South Ave. in South Lake Tahoe, will be host to ‘60s nostalgia and entertainment. With the help of horse drawn carriages, complimentary of Borges Family Carriage Rides, we’ll take guests back to the 1960’s, with a brief review the hospital’s rich and intriguing history, with a tour of the grounds and Barton historians leading the way.

Reminisce with 1963-themed activities & food specials for the entire family. Music from the ’60s will set the mood as attendees get in the groove with a vintage car show and dunk tank. “Flash back-prices” barbecue and drinks will be available for purchase. To continue with the familiar ‘60s themed celebration, face painting, children’s activities, fresh popcorn and sweet cotton candy will be available at no cost.

There is no cost for admission. Visit bartonhealth.org/history to learn more about Barton’s rich history and for more details about the event.
