South Lake Tahoe ice skaters bring home top honors

The Tahoe Snowflake ice skating team went to the All Stars competition in Vacaville last weekend, bringing home several top honors including two first place trophies and two second place trophies that will be added to the display to the South Tahoe Ice Arena.

All of the skaters who went to Vacaville danced in the first place production number. Also in first place was the oldest of the Tahoe synchronized age-group teams. The two younger teams placed second in their respective categories.

Tahoe skaters also fielded one couple and seven solo events at the competition. Two of the solos, Olive Hamner-Jillson and Summer Furrer, as well as the couple, Olive Hamner-Jillson and Kiara Furrer, were selected by the judges for an encore presentation of their routines.

The "Junior Youth" age-group (6 to 9 years old) Tahoe Snowflakes team: Kaitlyn Molyneux, Gwendolyn Bergner, Keatyn Louise, Zoe Wanzer, Ellie Frazier, Olive Hamner-Jillson, Kylie Muskovitz, Carly Cox, and Sophia Purvance.

The "Senior Youth" age-group (10 to 14 years old) Tahoe Snowflakes team: Dayna Genna, Alyssa Reeves, Olivia Herrera, Allana Jones, Kiara Furrer, and. Kristen Oleson.

Susan Campbell-Howe is the head coach of the teams and Alex Furrer is the assistant coach.

The South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena will host Ice Skating Institute's District 14 Championships, Skate at the Lake, Friday June 12 through Sunday the 14th. There will be 400 skaters from the district, which includes Northern California and Nevada.

Admission is free, and the Tahoe Snowflakes welcome the community's cheers and support.
