Broadway hit musical Pippin featured on LTCC stage

The high-energy, smash hit and award-winning musical Pippin will be on the Lake Tahoe Community College Duke Theater stage June 12 through the 20th.

The school's Theatre Arts Department presents show with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz who was the composer of the hit Broadway musicals Wicked and Godspell.

The musical follows the story of Pippin, a young prince who longs to find passion and adventure in his quest to live an extraordinary life. Pippin is encouraged by the seductive, yet sinister, leading player and a mysterious troupe of performers who lure the naïve prince along a death-defying journey to the final “One Perfect Act.”

Full of soaring songs from one of Broadway’s most cherished composers, this unforgettable show was the winner of four Tony Awards in 1973 for the original production, and four Tony Awards in 2013 for the Broadway revival, including Best Musical Revival. Variety called the show “Pure theatrical bliss!”

With choreography and aerial work by Angela Smith, music direction by Mark D. Williams, stage direction by Susan Boulanger, and a talented cast of performers, this production features thrilling dance and aerial work, fun and engaging performances, and some surprise magical moments.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13 at 8 p.m., and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 18, 19, and 20 at 8 p.m. There will be a Sunday matinee on June 14 and a Saturday matinee on June 20. Both matinees are at 2 p.m. The closing performance is Saturday, June 20.

Tickets for Pippin are $15 general admission, and $12 for seniors, groups of eight or more, students with a valid school I.D., and children under 13. Tickets may be purchased in advance at LTCC’s Bookstore Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Fridays 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Duke Theatre Box Office will be open for ticket sales one hour prior to all performances.
