Rick Roy Boeser ~ September 22, 1961 - June 6, 2023

We are sad to announce the sudden and unexpected death of Rick Boeser on the afternoon of June 6, 2023. Born and raised in Minnesota, Rick moved to Lake Tahoe in the late 80s after graduating high school in Prior Lake, Minn., and attending the Art Academy in St. Paul, Minn.

Landing at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Rick spent 38 years working mostly in the table games department where he was a much-loved coworker and friend to so many.

After meeting Magda at Heavenly Resort skiing on Memorial Day 2003, Ricky and Magda were married two years later and made their home together with Hania arriving in December 2007 and Theo in May 2011. Family time was precious to Ricky and he loved sharing the accomplishments and photos of Magda and the kids and their most recent interests. Hania and Theo were the main focus of his life. Practicing their sports with them and cheering at games and events was one of his greatest joys.

The Boeser family enjoyed all the outdoor activities that Lake Tahoe had to offer. Ricky’s favorite pastimes were skiing, mountain biking, hiking, disc golf, and neighborhood gatherings at the beach. Travel was always on Ricky’s mind and he loved exploring many different countries and cultures. Music played a primary role in Ricky’s life. He enjoyed all kinds of music and loved attending live performances any time he could. Art was his passion as a young person and he never gave up his different expressions including airbrush, pencil, and painting. If he sat down to visit and there was a blank piece of paper and pencil near him he immediately started doodling. His creativity was never-ending.

Ricky’s last day was spent doing the things he loved, dropping the kids at school and going for a mountain bike ride on a favorite neighborhood trail. There is no way to fill the void his untimely death has left for the family and so many friends he made along the way.

Rick was a devout Catholic raising his children in the faith and sharing his commitment to God. He will be greeted in Heaven by his mother and father, Pat and Roy. Ricky is survived by his wife Magda, daughter Hania and son Theo, siblings Robin (Tom) Theroult, Scott (Tammy) Boeser, Pam (Lee) Spangrud, Duffy (Barb) Boeser, Cindy (Paul) McCabe, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a funeral mass on Tuesday, June 20 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe at 11 a.m. with burial at Happy Homestead Cemetery to follow. The family will welcome all who can stay for a potluck at Grace Hall after they return from the burial. The potluck is from approximately 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern California Special Olympics that Ricky volunteered with for many years, or to St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, his family’s parish.
