Rock the Night Away at LTCC benefit concert

Event Date:
June 24, 2015 - 7:00pm

Every quarter, the Lake Tahoe Community College Music Department puts on a final exam that truly rocks. Traditionally, Rock Ensemble students studying with teacher and professional musician Eric Hellberg stage a concert to earn their final grades.

This Spring, students in LTCC’s New Wave Music and Beginning Rock Ensemble classes will be rocking for an even higher purpose: their final exams will also serve as a benefit concert to support a fellow rocker in need.

The LTCC Rock Ensemble Benefit Concert will be Wednesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. in the Duke Theatre. Tickets are $10 at the door, and half of the proceeds will go to the LTCC Foundation, which supports student scholarships. The other half will go to the Angie Peart Cancer Fund. Peart, a repeat rock ensemble student herself and wife of LTCC reprographics/phone operator Bob Peart, is battling aggressive brain cancer.

“Angie has been part of our Rock Ensemble family for the last few years,” says Hellberg. “She’s a big supporter, as well as a student. The whole Rock Ensemble family wanted to do something for the Pearts – their expenses are piling up from the surgery, post-care and treatments. This is a fun way to pitch in and help, and see what the students accomplished this quarter. If you’re coming, thank you – we appreciate your support!”

Expect classic rock n’ roll hits from the MUS248A: Beginning Rock Ensemble class, and fans of New Wave will appreciate a trip back to the 1980s from the MUS131CA: New Wave Music class. Audience members are encouraged to wear their favorite New Wave clothing, makeup and accessories – just for fun. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the LTCC Bookstore – call them at (530) 541-4660 ext. 227.
