July 4 Fireworks over Lake Tahoe: Best views and how to take really cool photographs

As Lake Tahoe prepares for its premiere eye-candy fireworks extravaganza over the sky Thursday night, Jack Durst at the website Fabulous Lake Tahoe offers these great tips in the video below on how to effectively take Fourth of July fireworks photographs and video.

According to the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority's website, NBC's Today show recognizes Tahoe South's Lights on the Lake Fireworks display as one of the country's top Fourth of July weekend celebrations.

With the Sierra Nevada and lake as a backdrop, the 25-minute display is choreographed by Pyro-Spectaculars to hit rock/pop songs along with traditional favorites, including Dave Matthews Band, FUN, Toby Keith, Steve Miller, Elton John, Adele, Ray Charles and Whitney Houston.

The show begins at 9:45 p.m. The best viewing spots around South Shore’s sandy beaches, include Lakeview Commons/El Dorado Beach area, Nevada Beach, Timber Cove Marina, Bijou Community Park, Edgewood Tahoe or on the lake aboard M.S. Dixie II and Tahoe Queen Paddlewheelers.

Holiday visitors can expect the fireworks show to burst into unusual and whimsical shapes such as jellyfish, stars, butterflies and smiley faces. "Lights on the Lake" is simulcast on local radio stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL-AM 1490.
