Forty Carson Valley kids spend two weeks in G.R.E.A.T. program

Forty 7th grade students just finished the two week long 2015 Summer G.R.E.A.T. Program sponsored by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

Twenty students from Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and 20 from Carson Valley Middle School learned leadership, goal setting, and decision making skills in the program. They had the opportunity to participate in the Heavenly Resort Epic mountain ropes course, kayaked Lake Tahoe and completed community service by cleaning up Zephyr Cove Beach.

"These young men and women are great representatives of our Douglas County youth and we were proud to have had the opportunity to work with them," said DCSO Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Sheriff Ron Pierini and the members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are focused on combating gang activity in and out of the community with the G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program which they find is a vital tool in that effort.
