"It is a reminder of the dangers that our first responders go through each and every day while keeping us safe. We will do everything possible to help the family of this officer. We will also do everything possible to help our public safety heroes get through this traumatic tragedy.
Please keep the officer's family and our first responders in our thoughts and prayers."

A Carson City employee who lives a block away said he heard loud banging noises and thought someone was breaking into his vehicle and went to check. He said his wife said to him that she heard a succession of gunfire. He went out and looked and moments later police vehicles swarmed the area.
