There will be a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at South Tahoe High to celebrate the newly completed Sports Medicine Building on Friday, August 23 at 10 am. The public is invited to attend and tour all of the new buildings. The ceremony will include messages by Lake Tahoe Unified School District Superintendent Dr. James Tarwater , school board, community and student members. View the program.
Funds of over $60,000,000 were spent on the project, coming from both a 2008 Bond Measure and state matching grants. In 2010, the Stadium View and Career Technology buildings opened. This was followed by the opening in 2011 of the Performing Arts Building and the 2012 opening of the Student Union and Blue & Gold Gym modernization.
The ceremony will take place in front of the new “Viking” carving at the front of school. It was donated by Ed Cook of Ed Cook Tree Service.
Right after the high school dedication and ceremony there will be another LTUSD Grand Opening and Ribbon cutting at the Bijou Community School across town. The brand new primary classroom wing will be unveiled. Almost $9,000,000 was spent on this project, gathered from Measure G and matching state funds. The Bijou dedication will begin at noon on Friday, August 23. View the program.
