Aktion Club to hold rummage sale to raise funds for leadership conference

Event Date:
August 27, 2022 - 9:00am

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra chartered and held the first Aktion Club of Lake Tahoe meeting in August 2012. This is a community service group open to all adults living with disabilities. More than anything, people living with disabilities want to be treated like everyone else. They want to show they have value, to get out and give back. Aktion Club inspires its members to take on leadership roles, play a part, and do things that really make a difference.

Over the past ten years, its members have performed service projects including food drives, cleaning up beaches, and visiting Barton Skilled Nursing. They have raised money and made donations to Live Violence Free for Thanksgiving meals, purchased socks for the Kiwanis sock program, donated stuffed animals to first responders, and cloth dolls they made to Barton Hospital pediatric and ER units. Each year they collect crayons from elementary school, sort them, and send them off to the Crayon Initiative where the crayons are melted down and remanufactured into new crayons and shipped to children’s hospitals across the country.

Members will be heading to the Wonder Valley Ranch outside Fresno in October for a leadership conference. To help raise money to attend, they will be holding a rummage sale Saturday, August 27 in the parking lot at the American Legion from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please stop by and support their efforts. The Legion is located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

Unless members are on a service project or field trip, Aktion Club meets at 3:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the South Lake Tahoe Library. For more information about Aktion Club, please contact Marie Foster at 530-318-9197. Visit the Aktion Club of Lake Tahoe on Facebook.
