"Angel of Tahoe" donates $3M to Boys and GIrls Club for new building

The "Angel of Tahoe" has struck again, this time with a $3,000,000 check for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT).

On Friday, August 24, 2018, Lisa "The Angel of Tahoe" Maloff stopped by the club in South Lake Tahoe to not only present the check, but to have fun at the annual end-of-summer party she hosts.

Over 200 current, past and future club members enjoyed a marionette puppet show, the largest bounce houses in local memory, face painting, lunch, ice pops and special angel-shaped cookies by Squishiebaby Sweets in honor of Lisa and all she does for the community.

The $3M will be added to the previous $500,000 she donated and will enable the club to realize a long-held dream of owning their own, state-of-the-art, Clubhouse.

The check was accepted by BGCLT Board President Terri Arnold and club member and Youth of the Year nominee Emmie Fiel. All members sang the Club song to Lisa and a bouquet of flowers was presented by Emma Van Horn.

“The positive impact that Lisa is having on our community is really a blessing,” said Arnold. “She is making our dream come true and for that we will be forever grateful.”

“There is nothing better than seeing a child smile with joy,” exclaimed BGCLT Executive Director Jude Wood. “Bounce houses and ice pops have brought the smiles today, but I can’t wait to see their faces when they first walk into our new Clubhouse. And it is all thanks to Lisa.”

BGCLT is currently in negotiations to secure the perfect location for their new Clubhouse and will be working with the El Dorado Community Foundation to raise additional funding. They would like to use space currently occupied adjacent to their current Lyon Avenue location and are working with Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) to see if that will be possible. A decision should be made this Fall, and if approved, the Boys and Girls Club could break ground as early as 2019.

LTUSD closed Al Tahoe Elementary years ago when the district had dropping enrollment and the old school has been used for BGCLT and various other child-based offices since then. They plan is to re-open the school but how it will be used has yet to be decided.

In the meantime, the Club will continue to operate out of Al Tahoe, BGCLT also hopes to have a space in the City’s new Recreation Center, as was promised to voters in the 2016 Measure P.
