Event Date:
October 21, 2016 (All day)
The second annual WordWave Festival will take place October 21-23, 2016, on the shore of South Lake Tahoe at the Tallac Historic Site. Some of the most creative and inspiring writers, musicians, and performers from around the country will be on the South Shore to share their talents at this three-day event. The festival will be interactive, featuring readings, workshops, panels, plays, open mics, guided hikes, and oral storytelling.
Featured as a guest speaker this year is musician Duane Allman's daughter, Galadrielle, who is the author of the memoir “Please Be With Me, A Song for My Father Duane Allman."
Two new events are coming to WordWave this year:
Saturday morning, October 22 “Craft and Courage (and the Twelve Years it Took for My First Book Deal)” - Melissa Cistaro discusses what sustained her through the long journey of writing her memoir, and the publishing experience that made it all worthwhile. Melissa Cistaro is the author of the memoir “Pieces of My Mother.” Her essays, interviews, and stories have appeared in The New Ohio Review, Brevity, The Huffington Post, PBS: To the Contrary, Good Housekeeping and the anthologies Love & Profanity and Cherished. She also works as a writing mentor and an event coordinator at Book Passage, the esteemed independent bookstore in Northern California, where she has introduced hundreds of authors. You can learn more about Melissa at melissacistaro.com
Saturday afternoon, October 22 Free Workshop: Writing the Healing Story
How do we put together the pieces of our past and find the courage to craft our narrative truths? In this workshop we will talk about the writer’s journey and the transformative power of telling our stories. Through in-class writing exercises, we will explore memory and the art of writing brave. Discussion will include:
• Sticking with the story you need to tell • Finding the arc of forgiveness • The power of compassion in memoir.

Organizers had a vision when they created WordWave for it to become an annual cultural event at beautiful Lake Tahoe. The underlying principle of WordWave is that stories—in song, theater, oral tradition, and books—change lives. Every culture uses story to entertain, educate, preserve history and tradition, and connect
WordWave also seeks to establish the Tahoe region as a high-profile literary destination. South Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Basin are home to amazing creative talent: award-winning writers, artists, and storytellers live and play here. Every day, they are transforming our community with their words. WordWave will provide a venue for locals and visitors alike to share their stories and validate their creativity, an annual gathering where anyone can come, create, and be inspired by our lake.
