Unprecedented amount of services and financial help as LTCC prepares for Fall Quarter

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) reopens with limited, public-facing support services on Monday, September 13. Students can come to campus on One College Drive and apply and register for classes, meet with an academic counselor, and learn about financial aid options including free LTCC CARES grants of up to $750 and $250 emergency awards for those who live or work in the Caldor Fire evacuation zone and have been impacted by it.

Support services will also continue to be available virtually via the Cranium Café online portal, which is open to current students and visitors. It offers the ability to connect with counselors and various student
support service staff who can offer guidance and direction for a smooth start to the Fall quarter. Online resources are also available via the LTCC Catalog and the Class Schedule.

LTCC’s on-campus services are closed Thursday, September 16 so the college and broader community can gather for the annual State of the College Address and Convocation activities. To watch Superintendent/President Jeff DeFranco’s address focusing on the extraordinary events facing our
community and how LTCC can best provide support right now, or to watch a livestream of the address, visit www.ltcc.edu/soca.

Continuing students, parents, or those interested in knowing more about college at LTCC are welcome to the Fall Quarter Coyote Kickoff on campus Friday, September 17 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Meet with student service support staff, faculty, and counselors – the entire support team behind a student’s education at LTCC. The event includes free food and drink, raffle prizes, free LTCC swag, music, and fun games to help connect you with the LTCC team.

Fall quarter classes begin Monday, September 20 with coronavirus precautions in place, including universal mask wearing while indoors on campus. The quarter runs until December 16, 2021, with many Late Start classes providing shorter educational experiences that run throughout the quarter.

Paying for college is always a concern, and particularly so now. There is an LTCC Wildfire Relief Fund for current students that provides $250 emergency awards for those living or working in the Caldor Fire evacuation zone and are impacted by it. LTCC CARES grants can provide up to $750 for new students and up to $500 for continuing recipients who apply. LTCC’s Food Pantry provides emergency food and other necessities for students in need. Free textbooks, technology, and mental health support are also available to registered students, along with many other services and campus work opportunities.

Students who live in an evacuation area and are struggling to continue or start their educations at LTCC are encouraged to reach out to the college by phone (530.541.4660), via the Cranium Café, or by email to enrollmentservices@ltcc.edu so they may directly assist you.
