NHP identifies three victims in Saturday Highway 395 crash in Douglas County

A Gardnerville woman and a Yerington man have been identified as victims in Saturday night's fatal accident on Highway 395 at Leviathan Mine Road, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. A Reno man has also been identified. NHP will release the name of the separate Sunday morning single-vehicle crash later today.

The two victims traveling in the Geo Metro that was struck head on are James Walter Harvey, 66, of Yerington and passenger Brenda Stringham, 50, of Gardnerville. The driver of the Nissan pickup who crashed into the Metro has been identified as Matthew Travis Walburg, 21 of Reno.

The crash involving two vehicles traveling on Highway 395 at Leviathan Mine Road was reported at 11:54 p.m. Saturday. NHP troopers were dispatched to the accident 12 miles south of Gardnerville near mile marker 8. The crash investigation details so far indicate that the 2007 Nissan Frontier was traveling north on Highway 395 on the two-lane highway.

Traveling south on Highway 395 approaching the Nissan was a 1995 Geo Metro. The Nissan for an unknown reason crossed the centerline and struck the Geo Metro head on. All three victims sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Stringham, the passenger of the Geo Metro, was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this accident, said NHP spokeswoman Barbara Stapleton.

The Highway was closed in both directions for about 5 hours.

The name of the fatal victim in Sunday morning’s crash involving a single vehicle in Douglas County on Highway 395 at Lucerne in Minden is being released today.
