Barton wellness program helps reduce risk of major illness through MIND Diet

Event Date:
October 17, 2022 - 5:00pm

Barton Health is offering a new Wellness Program designed to help reduce the risk of major illness through diet. The Mind Diet, or "Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay" Diet, focuses on preventing and managing Alzheimer's dementia and other chronic diseases. Guided by two Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, Becky Espinel, RDN, and Kristen Travis, RDN, the course will take place on Monday, October 17, from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Barton Center for Orthopedics & Wellness.

“Studies show consuming a diet high in fruits and vegetables is associated with lower blood pressure and cholesterol, resulting in reduced risk for numerous chronic diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and dementia. Many chronic diseases can be prevented, controlled, or even reversed through eating patterns,” said Espinel. “We are excited to guide participants to create new and sustainable healthy habits that will transform their health and improve their life.”

In this 90-minute class, participants will learn about the Mediterranean Diet and the MIND Diet, including their similarities and differences, understand the evidence-based benefits of each diet, learn the main food staples, enjoy a food demonstration, and receive recipes to recreate at home. The course fee is $35. Advanced registration is required.
