Winter Weather Advisory returns overnight in Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A winter storm just days after the first day of Autumn isn't too unusual for the Lake Tahoe region, but it always catches everyone by surprise and leaves one wondering if Fall will return.

Many areas at lake level saw an inch or so of snow, with a few inches at upper elevations. Expect more of the same Sunday night into Monday morning. The Winter Snow Advisory goes into effect Sunday night at 5:00 p.m. and lasts until 10:00 a.m. Monday.

Snow expected above 6000 feet. Total snow accumulations of a dusting to 1 inch at lake level and around Truckee, and a dusting to 3 inches above 7000 feet including passes. Snowfall amounts may vary greatly over short distances due to the showery

nature of the precipitation.

The forecast for South Lake Tahoe during this period from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Sunday Afternoon - A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Sunday Night - A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Monday - A 20 percent chance of snow showers before noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
