Site work underway on South Lake Tahoe's Sugar Pine Village affordable housing project

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Trees are being cleared at the site of the Sugar Pine Village affordable housing project in South Lake Tahoe as crews begin Phase 1 of the long-awaited launch. With the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) grading season ending October 15, the contractor will finish up the demolition of trees, remove tree stumps, clear and grub, then winterize the site.

Final site work, underground utilities, and vertical construction will resume in the spring.

The first phase will be 68 units of 100 percent affordable housing built along with the required infrastructure and landscaping. The first phase also includes 100+ parking spaces and play areas for children. Phase 1’s income eligibility will be for households in the range of 30-60 percent of the Area Media Income (AMI). The income requirements will be at the time of renting, but at this time those earning approximately $26,100 - $52,200 annually would qualify. Eligible income levels will be published as the project gets closer to lease up, as they are updated annually.

Once completed, Sugar Pine Village will provide 248 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units.
