Vail Resorts CEO gives $125,000 to Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

The CEO of Vail Resorts, Rob Katz, and his wife Elana Amsterdam, have donated $2 million to the 12 communities where his company has operations, including South Lake Tahoe.

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) was given a donation of $125,000.

“We are so grateful to have been chosen by Rob as the recipients of his South Lake Tahoe donation, and overwhelmed by his personal generosity to our community,” said Jude Wood, Executive Director of BGCLT.

The donation could not have come at a better time for the Club said Wood. They have seen an increase in membership of 146 percent in the past two years and they will soon be starting a campaign to find a new home.

$75,000 of the donation will be used to pay for 50 members to attend the Club for the 16/17 school year.

“The Boys and Girls Club purposefully keeps our membership fees low and never turns away a child for their inability to pay," said Wood. "Our after-school program costs just $100 for ten months, including all the vacations. That is less than 50 cents a day for families, even though it costs BGCLT $8 per day per child. Rob’s incredible donation will make up the deficit in that funding for 50 children and ensure that we can keep our doors open to everyone.”

The remaining $50,000 will go into the campaign for a new home. BGCLT is currently housed in the Al Tahoe Elementary School, which the District hopes to reopen as a school as early as next year.

“Rob has shown his support for the children of our community and we hope that his example will encourage other local businessmen and women to also support our campaign for a new home,” said Terri Arnold, BGCLT Board President.
