Little Valley Fire is now 55% contained, 3,400 acres burned

10/16/16 update 7:00PM - The Little Valley Fire is holding at 3,400 acres with 55 percent containment. 667 personnel remain on the incident. More rain forecast tonight which will aid in extinguishing the fire which started on Friday.

22 residences and 17-outbuildings were destroyed with 480 homes saved in the direct vicinity of the fire. Multiple structures remain under threat until 100-percent containment has been achieved.

10:00PM update - Current acreage burned in the Little Valley Fire has been revised at 3,400 acres with 20 percent containment this evening.

At this time, there are 1,007 firefighter personnel working on the fire and 7 airtankers, 4 helecopters, 155 fire engines, 14 hand crews (20 firefighters each), and 25 overhead personnel.

22 residences and 17-outbuildings have been reported destroyed. Access to addresses higher than 6190 Franktown Road are now open; access to addresses lower than 6190 Franktown Rd remain closed.

500-structures are still under threat.

The current burned acreage in the Little Valley Fire between Carson City and Reno is estimated at 3,460 acres with 5 percent containment. The Sierra Front Type III Incident Management Team reports that 22 residences and 17 outbuildings have been destroyed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This fire was first reported at 1:38 a.m. on Friday, October 14. Multiple agencies have responded and are engaged in firefighting and structure protection tactics. Fuels include mixed timber, sagebrush and grass. Some rain fell on the fire on Friday, moderating fire behavior, but an early winter storm approaching the West coast is causing very high winds.

High Wind Advisory for the next several days could cause a major change in the direction of the fire. Saturday afternoon and evening, winds are forecast to be from the southwest 25-35 mph with gusts up to 70 mph. The Sierra Ridge gusts will be up to 115 mph.

Approximately 855 firefighters are on-scene.

Four injuries due to smoke inhalation have been reported.
