Plane missing southwest of Lake Tahoe, overdue on trip from Idaho

5:00 p.m. update: According to the Acorn News in Jackson, Calif., the missing Cessna 182 is normally hangared in Amador County. Authorities Continuing Search for Missing Cessna 182. They said the plane was expected at Westover Field on Saturday.

The pilot left Idaho, headed to Jackson during a storm in the Sierra. Many pilots will take a southern route to Westover Field, which takes a plane between Highway 50 and 88. It is unknown at this time which route was taken.

Weather conditions continue to prevent search operations.

2:30 p.m. update: Sgt. Tasha Thompson of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office told South Tahoe Now that all search efforts to locate the missing Cessna have been called off due to the weather, but will resume once conditions improve.

Thompson said the EDSO Search and Rescue team was assembled overnight were out near a spot where the plane was last known to be. They are being pulled back due to the conditions and will operate out of the Lake Tahoe Airport Monday morning.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's office and other authorities are searching for a missing Cessna whose last location was in rugged terrain southwest of Lake Tahoe.

The California Wing of the Civil Air Patrol is working the mission but are currently unable to fly over the mountains in search of the airplane due to poor weather.

“A Cessna aircraft returning to the Sacramento area from Idaho with a single pilot on-board has been reported overdue," said a Civil Air Patrol news release. "The California Wing of the Civil Air Patrol was activated by the United States Air Force Rescue Coordination Center at Tyndall Air Force Base and the El Dorado Sheriff’s Department has been activated by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to search for the missing aircraft. The CAP National Radar Analysis Team and the CAP Celluar Forensics Team are also supporting the search.”

A warning went over police scanners in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, advising law enforcement of the overdue airplane. The search began on Sunday.

Col. Jon Stokes, with the California Wing of the CAP, said the last known position of the aircraft was in a rugged area of the Sierra Nevada southwest of the lake. He said the Cessna was returning to the Sacramento area from Idaho with a single pilot on board.
