South Lake Tahoe Rotary to celebrate Roberta Mason at polio eradication fundraiser

Event Date:
October 23, 2019 - 5:00pm

The South Lake Tahoe Rotary Club is inviting the community to join them on Wednesday, October 23 at Lake Tahoe AleWorX to not only honor Roberta Mason but to also "kick polio's behind." This is a family-friendly event from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Roberta recently celebrated her 90th birthday and the party continues. She has been a vital part of the local community for over 60 years and was instrumental in bringing Lake Tahoe Community College into existence. She was a member of their Board of Trustees for 40 years.

Also for 40 years, Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio since 1979 and in that time they have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. So far, Rotary has contributed more than $1.8 billion toward eradicating the disease worldwide and the Bill Gates Foundation has joined the fight with $555 million in support of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year and South Lake Tahoe Rotary has joined the fight.

It costs just $3 to fully protect a child against polio.

Rotary’s focus is advocacy, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and awareness building. Join them at the celebration. Lake Tahoe AleWorX will be donating 100 percent of its profits that evening to South Lake Tahoe Rotary.

Lake Tahoe AleWorX is located at 2050 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
