Tahoe Paradise Park District looks to consolidate elections to save money

In a cost-cutting move, the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District (TPRID) Board of Directors is looking at the possibility of consolidating their elections.

William E. Schultz, the El Dorado County Recorder-Clerk-Registrar of Voters, has presented the board with information on how to accomplish this goal which cost the small park district $5,833 in 2015. With just 605 votes cast in that election, this amount works out to be almost $10 per vote.

By consolidating odd-numbered year elections with even-numbered year elections, it could significantly reduce costs in the long term for special districts such as TPRID. By converting to even-numbered elections, the TPRID will, however, incur an up-front cost to provide notice of a proposed conversion to all registered voters in the district, and, will also extend the terms of current board members by one year.

The Board of Directors of TPRID will discuss this matter at their next meeting on October 27. The public is invited to attend and provide input on the agenda's “Information Item for Discussion.” Normally, meetings are held in the park's clubhouse form 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., though this agenda is not yet posted.

The board may receive further public comment, and consider this an “action item” at their November or December public meeting. If approved, a resolution requesting converting the district to even-numbered elections will be sent to the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors for consideration and approval.

Founded in 1965, TPRID operates Tahoe Paradise Park; a 55-acre park, that includes an enclosed recreation/meeting facility, outdoor entertainment and wedding venue, tennis and pickle-ball courts, playground and playfields along the Upper Truckee River and fishing and water sports on Lake Baron.

Located at the west end of East San Bernardino Avenue in Meyers, Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District comprises properties in the Tahoe Paradise neighborhood areas of North Upper Truckee (south of Little Bear), along Pioneer Trail (west of Susquehanna), and areas of Christmas Valley.
