The Lake Tahoe Unified School Board student representative is now junior Sarah Smith. She was sworn in by Board President Barbara Bannar at the last meeting.

South Lake Tahoe's Cork & More is not going to close at the end of the month as previously announced. The media coverage of their closing brought potential buyers out of the woodwork. Stay tuned to see if a sale is successful.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a grant o educate motorists about the dangers of aggressive driving and to take appropriate enforcement action. The primary goal of this grant is to reduce, by at least 5 percent, the number of fatal and injury traffic collisions where speed, improper turning, and driving on the wrong side of the road are primary collision factors. To achieve this goal by September 30, 2016, the CHP will combine statewide targeted enforcement with an active public awareness campaign, which includes at least 600 radar trailer deployments and a minimum of 200 traffic safety presentations throughout the state.

There will soon be a family friendly fast food restaurant on the Nevada side. Neighborhood Burgers will be opening on lower Kingsbury Grade. Matt Grime, owner of Fox & Hound, and Eric Watada, of State Farm Insurance, will be opening the restaurant in the beginning of December. "Fast, fresh and focused on locals," is their motto. Custom burgers, soft-serve ice cream and non-burger specialties will be featured.
