Tahoe Women's Community Fund starts membership drive; All invited to join giving circle

What started as a conversation around the living room table in a South Lake Tahoe home has turned into a successful collective giving circle that has donated over $200,000 to the local community.

That one night has changed the lives of many as the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund (TWCF) formed under the guidance of Bill Roby and the El Dorado Community Foundation.

After that first meeting, 200 Tahoe women attended a dinner to hear more about this new fund. With little organization, collaboration, and communication there were 160 members just two months later. All committed a minimum donation of $100, and four months later, in Spring, $22,000 was given away to multiple nonprofits who worked to make the lives of community members on the South Shore better.

Now, just four years later, the all-volunteer Tahoe Women’s Community Fund, is thriving in their philanthropic efforts and looking to expand their membership numbers.

TWCF is dependent on annual memberships that range from $100-$1000.

Everyone, male and female, can join during their membership drive that ends on December 31, 2019. All membership funds are put into a “pot”, grant applications are sought, and then the money is redistributed out to the organizations that the members of the TWCF vote for. Every membership earns a vote, and all voting is done by email.

Tahoe Women’s Community Fund is a true collective giving circle, and shows how when everyone gets a little, the group can make a big difference. Last spring, TWCF’s 200+ members donated $84,000 to 13 different nonprofits. This coming Spring, they hope to clear $100,000 in donations.

"We would like to thank and celebrate all women and men who are or have been members of the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund. It truly does 'take a village!" said one of the original members, Kathy Haven.
