Good Morning Lake Tahoe Skiers & Riders…

A little break in storm action… Get out on the mountain! More Fresh Snow reported and Resorts are firing up more lifts & opening more terrain… Sierra at Tahoe & Sugar Bowl are opening today. Winter Storm Warning posted tonight thru Saturday afternoon. Today’s Weather: Expect Mostly Cloudy skies with scattered snow showers. Highs: 31F-36F (21F-26F @ 8000 feet). West winds 10-15 mph.

Tonight: Snow likely after midnight. Snow accumulation of up to 2”. Lows: 17 to 27. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Ridge gusts up to 50 mph.

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO 3 PM PST SATURDAY…

* CHANGES…Expired previous warning. No change to snow amounts for tonight through Saturday.

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Snow accumulations 8 to 14 inches late tonight into Saturday. This snow will be more powdery.

* WHERE…Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

* WHEN…From 11 PM Friday to 3 PM PST Saturday. Heaviest snowfall expected Saturday morning.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Travel could be very difficult Saturday. Gusty winds could produce poor visibility especially in higher elevations.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in case of power outages.

WHAT TO WEAR: Dress warm, in layers with your Gore-Tex Jacket or Shell. Take warm gloves, a hat or beanie, and wear a Helmet for Safety. Also wear good yellow or rose tinted Goggles. Don’t forget to Stay Hydrated at Altitude!

SURFACE CONDITIONS: Surface Conditions are Fresh Powder/Snow over Machine Groomed. Machine Groomed & Skier-Rider Packed Powder/Snow. Watch for marked & unmarked obstacles.

SAFETY MESSAGE: Stay on designated Opened Trails only. Keep an eye out for marked and unmarked obstacles. Slow Down and observe safety signs on trails with high concentration of skiers and riders… Know the Code! Always stay in control. Be able to avoid objects and people in your Path! Please stop to side of the run where it is safe and always check uphill for skiers and riders before restarting downhill.

Areas of MODERATE avalanche danger exist near treeline and above treeline due to recently formed wind slabs. Below treeline, avalanche danger is LOW. Avalanche danger is expected to increase on Saturday at all elevations.
