City of South Lake Tahoe - Brooke Laine mayor, council members and city clerk sworn in

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The three newly elected South Lake Tahoe City councilmembers were sworn in on Tuesday along with the new city clerk, and a new mayor and mayor pro-tem have been selected.

Devin Middlebrook, Tamara Wallace, Cody Bass and Sue Blankenship all took the oath of office in front of a packed City Council meeting on December 11, 2018.

Brooke Laine was unanimously chosen for mayor and Jason Collin was unanimously selected for mayor pro-tem.

Laine's nomination and vote went quickly as the new councilmembers said they wanted Laine's expertise and experience to help guide them as they learn the ropes.

"Your leadership and knowledge of the City is great," said Middlebrook.

The pool of potential candidates for mayor pro-tem included Middlebrook, Wallace and Collin. Bass was the only one who didn't throw his hat into the ring. Ultimately Collin was selected based on his tenure and his promise to be able to dedicate more time to the position now that he is a year into his new job at Barton Health.

Laine follows her mother Del Laine in being a two-time mayor. Del was mayor once in each of her two terms in the 80s and 90s. Brooke was mayor during her previous term in 2002. This gives the name Laine to the position in each of the last four decades.

The Council also voted to make the third meeting of each month an evening meeting that will start at 5:30 p.m. and end by 10:30 p.m. This schedule will start in January 2019.
