Bass and Friedrich named South Lake Tahoe mayor and mayor pro tem

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe City Council appointed the new mayor and mayor pro tem during its meeting on December 12. As expected, Cody Bass was voted in as mayor after serving a year as mayor pro tem, with Councilman John Friedrich moving up as mayor pro tem.

Mayor Bass and Mayor Pro Tem Friedrich assumed their duties at the meeting for a one-year term, through November 2024. The Mayor is responsible for presiding over City Council meetings, representing the City Council at various business and ceremonial events, and executing all City ordinances, resolutions, and contracts. The Mayor Pro Tem performs these duties in the absence of the Mayor.

Mayor Bass was initially elected to the City Council in November 2018. He was re-elected in November 2022 to serve a four-year term. In December 2022, he was appointed mayor pro tem for 2023. During his 2023 tenure, he also served as a board member for the Tahoe Transportation District, PADMA, and the Lake Tahoe Visitor’s Authority Board. In addition, Bass represented the city on the El Dorado County Transportation Commission, El Dorado County 2x2, Charter City Subcommittee, Multi-Cultural Alliance Subcommittee, Mental Health Subcommittee, Capital Improvement Program Subcommittee, and the South Shore Transit Subcommittee.

“I am proud to be appointed the mayor and look forward to serving the City of South Lake Tahoe. As we have so many great projects in the works, I also look forward to leading the city during this exciting time,” stated Mayor Bass.

Mayor Pro Tem Friedrich was initially elected to the City Council in November 2020. During the 2023 calendar year, he served as a member of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board. In addition, he represented the city for the STPUD Subcommittee, LTUSD 2x2, and the Multi-Cultural Alliance Subcommittee.

Each year the City Council selects a new mayor and mayor pro tem from among its ranks during the month of December. They will continue to uphold the City’s Strategic Priorities and Goals in their respective roles.
