Tahoe Youth & Family Services holds annual Night of Giving Thursday

Event Date:
December 18, 2014 - 4:30pm

Tahoe Youth & Family Services is hosting their fifth annual Night of Giving 4:30-6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at their South Lake Tahoe office at 1021 Fremont Avenue.

The night is used as an opportunity for the community to learn about what TYFS does and to help them out both financially and with items needed by the homeless youth they serve.

There will be light refreshments.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services has been serving the local community since 1971. They have expanded into Douglas, Alpine and Washoe counties as well and offer counseling to youth and their families, mentoring services, drop in centers offering basic necessities for runaway, homeless and couch surfing youth ages 11-24 as well as street outreach.

Being an outreach for homeless teens, TYFS is asking for donations of new or gently used sleeping bags, warm socks, hand warmers and outdoor packs for the winter months.

Donations of toilet paper, paper towels and kleenex help with the running of the offices and drop in centers.

“We are also looking for unrestricted funds,” Administrative assistant Melinda Matus said. “We run primarily by grants, but we have needs like copy paper and office supplies and if it is unrestricted funds, we can use if for whatever the organization needs at that time.”

Donations may also be dropped off at the office for those unable to attend the event.

Drop off times are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
