Heavy traffic in and out of South Lake Tahoe Monday

A look at roads around Lake Tahoe Monday afternoon shows congestion and slow moving traffic, especially near ski resorts.
Holiday travelers in Tahoe for the weekend headed out, while a fresh group of visitors headed in, filling up area lodging properties.
The California Highway Patrol has issued traffic alerts for Interstate 80 for both eastbound and westbound travelers from Colfax to Truckee, warning motorists that they should be prepared for heavy traffic and to expect delays. CHP also issued warnings near the intersection with Sierra-At-Tahoe road with the departing ski crowd, and at Strawberry with cars pulling over to play in snow, sometimes not pulling all the way off the road, opening doors into traffic, and causing numerous hazards.
As of 4:30 p.m. it was about a two hour drive from South Lake Tahoe to Pollock Pines, a town 46 miles to the west.
