12:00PM Update: The East Fork Fire Protection District is on scene of what has been designated as the Holiday Fire, located in and near the Preacher Mine area of the Pine Nut Range southeast of Gardnerville, Nevada.
The fire is approximately 55 acres in size and is moving slowly through grass and pinion juniper. The fire is in an area which has seen numerous fires over the past several years and is surrounded by past burn scare areas. Access is extremely difficult and resource availability is a challenge. Hand crews are on order and one helicopter from the Nevada Division of Forestry will be conducting bucket work.
The fire appears to be on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land making them the managing jurisdiction. East Fork Fire Protection District is in the process of handing the fire off to BLM fire management team. East Fork has two overhead personnel currently assigned to the fire. Extinguishing of the fire could take up to three days. There is no containment figure available at this time. Cause of the fire is under investigation by BLM.
