Caesars Entertainment, the parent company of Lake Tahoe's Harveys and Harrah's Tahoe, has become the first-ever official casino sponsor of the National Football League (NFL).

In this multi-year deal, Caesars Entertainment will provide unique experiences for NFL fans by engaging its casino properties, celebrity chefs, premier music artists and a wide range of entertainers.

PHILLIPS, Calif. - It was a much different picture of the Sierra snowpack today than what there was a year ago when the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) conducted their first monthly measurement of the snow and water content at Phillips Station, ten miles west of Lake Tahoe.

As of January 3, 2019, DWR measured the snow at 25.5 inches deep, which means the Sierra snowpack is 80 percent of normal with a snow water equivalent (SWE) of nine inches. These figures are 36 percent of the April 1 average, the date used as the maximum snowpack that will be received in the mountains.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As we say goodbye to 2018 and hello to 2019 there will be one constant in Lake Tahoe - sunny days and temperatures well below freezing as the sun goes down.

A cold front will move through the area overnight Sunday night into Monday morning, though it is a dry one. A brisk north to northeast wind will also make it feel considerably colder. As for when the new year begins at midnight, expect it to
be quite chilly.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thousands of music fans and dozens of performers are headed to South Lake Tahoe for the 8th annual SnowGlobe Music Festival from December 29-31. Before they get here, hundreds of workers are spending many hours preparing the scene from the delivery and installation of stages, tents, electrical cables, ski jumps, trailers, vehicles and port-a-potties.

Judith Virginia Brown passed away at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., on Dec. 8, 2018.

She was 72.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Six families in South Lake Tahoe don't know where they will be spending Christmas after receiving notice Wednesday that the apartment building they've been calling home was found to be unsafe, giving them until Monday, December 17 to find a place to live.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The new city council voted unanimously during their December 11 meeting to add nightly meetings to their calendar during the year to make it easier for residents who work during the day to make it to a meeting.

“Council understands that everyone can’t make it to a morning meeting,” said South Lake Tahoe City Manager Frank Rush. “Council has made this change in an effort to make the city more open, more accessible and more transparent, and encourages our citizens to participate in City government.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The new city council had to tackle the big issue of a cannabis ordinance during their first meeting together on Tuesday, an issue that had been before the previous council numerous times. Two versions of an ordinance were presented but neither passed muster in the eyes of the council and they hope to have one that addresses their issues come before them at their January 15, 2019 meeting.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe is hosting another Pipe Keeper training session in South Lake Tahoe on January 17, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pipe Keepers is a citizen science program to address the threat of stormwater pollution entering Lake Tahoe. Runoff from rain storms and snowmelt is the largest source of pollution that degrades Lake clarity. League staff will train you to survey stormwater infrastructure including pipes and stormdrains found all throughout the city.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a special City Council meeting on Monday, December 10 at 5:00 p.m.

The councilmembers will officially accept the November 6 election results. Per Elections Code the City Clerk must certify the results of the election to the City Council.

For South Lake Tahoe this means certifying the fact that three councilmembers, Cody Bass, Devin Middlebrook, and Tamara Wallace, won the election along with Sue Blankenship as city clerk, Dave Olivo as city treasurer, and Measure T passed.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless has announced the opening of their Warm Room for the 2018-19 season on Wednesday, December 12. This year they will be located inside the old Emerald Bay Dentistry office at 1201 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe.

The Warm Room will operate nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. through April 2019.

For the fourth year, the Warm Room will provide overnight refuge from the elements in a safe and warm environment for approximately twenty-five adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness during winter months.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - It was a historic turnout for a midterm election across El Dorado County, and now the results have been finalized for the November 6, 2018 election.

The final report was released at 2:36 p.m.

The most watched issued for South Lake Tahoe voters was Measure T, the citizen generated measure to ban vacation home rentals from residential neighborhoods starting in 2021.

Hunter Weiss was 20-years-old when he attended the annual SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe and was heading home to Reno on New Year's Day 2018. He and a friend pulled their vehicle over to sleep and left a propane heater on in the front of the truck to stay warm. Hunter died of carbon monoxide poisoning but his friend survived due to an open window on his side of the vehicle.

Weiss had been an organ donor and his corneas gave the gift of sight to two people, one whom had never seen before.

The inaugural Tree Lighting Celebration at Edgewood Tahoe took place on Saturday night with a packed house welcoming in the season with jolly ole' Santa Claus.

As Santa descended the grand stairs in the Lodge at Edgewood with Mrs. Santa, members of the South Tahoe Choral Association sang Christmas songs to the gathered crowd.

"For Edgewood it's about creating memories," the resort's GM Corinna Osborne said as she flipped the switch to light the tree.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The United States Ski and Snowboard teams have been announced for this season and several local faces once again, including South Lake Tahoe Olympians Maddie Bowman and Jamie Anderson, are on that list.

Maddie Bowman, a South Tahoe High grad, has won an Olympic gold medal and seven X Games medals. She burst onto the ski halfpipe scene in 2012, and into the history books two years later by winning the first Olympic gold medal in women’s halfpipe skiing. She has now been on the Pro Halfpipe-Freeskiing team for seven years.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 170-room Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe and an adjacent 3.4 acre parcel are being purchased by Braemar Hotels & Resorts, Inc for $120 million. The plot of vacant land will be used for a luxury residential townhome development.

The acquisition is expected to close between December 12, 2018 and January 15, 2019.
