Man arrested in connection with death of El Dorado County infant

An investigation by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office into the death of a six-week-old infant has resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old man.

Michael Swope is behind bars at the jail in Placerville and being held on one million dollars bail after his arrest on Thursday, December 29 at 3:20 p.m. on second-degree murder and assault charges.

The infant’s mother has been cooperating with authorities throughout the investigation and is not considered a suspect.

No other details have been released.

South Lake Tahoe ranks first in most expensive place in California to spend New Year's Eve

South Lake Tahoe is on top of a list that perhaps isn't the best list to be on as the area it is now the most expensive destination in California to spend New Year's Eve 2016.

The region is a very popular one with skiing, concerts, and bars and restaurants where can ring in the new year from.

According to a recent survey by LosAngelesHotels.org, the average overnight stay in SLT is $345 for the most affordable room. They took the rate for the cheapest available double room at a 3-star hotel (or above) at 20 popular destinations for the holiday in the state.

Reno man arrested on pimping and prostitution charges in South Lake Tahoe

12/22/16 update: The Reno man accused of bringing female(s) to South Lake Tahoe for prostitution remains behind bars at the El Dorado County Jail tonight on $345,000 bail. 32-year-old Francisco Daniel Nieves was arrested on December 19 without incident in South Lake Tahoe after a victim went into the Carson City Sheriff's Office to report the crime.

This case is still under investigation.

Nieves will be in El Dorado County court on December 30 for an 8:30 a.m. hearing. At this point in time he is being represented by a public defender.

Two more report illness from South Lake Tahoe food tampering

A 45-year-old man is behind bars for allegedly tampering with food at the Raley's Hot Wok and the Baja Fresh in South Lake Tahoe, and the investigation is continuing into what substance the suspect, Harry Dally, put on the food over a two-week period.

Suspect arrested in South Lake Tahoe food contamination crime

A South Lake Tahoe man is behind bars tonight after being arrested as the suspect in a food contamination case at Raley’s in the Village Center near Stateline.

On Tuesday, November 22, South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) arrested 43-year-old Harry Dally at his residence and booked him into county jail on a single felony count of intentionally dispensing a contaminating substance capable of causing death or injury on food items for human consumption. At this time he is only charged with the crime at the Hot Wok inside of Raley’s. His bail has been set at $100,000.

Public invited to Open House at South Tahoe High for new teen resource room

The community is invited to an Open House at the new Teen Resource Room at South Tahoe High on Wednesday, November 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in room C-1 at the school which is located at 1735 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.

Students use the room to get needed clothing including hats and coats, school supplies and food, as well as bicycles. Counseling services are also offered in the room.

Cram-a-Cruiser to fill shelves for children's food program

Lake Tahoe Humane Society holding "Poker Ride" and "Show and Shine"

The Lake Tahoe Humane Society is inviting everyone to their fundraisers this weekend in South Lake Tahoe, both which get people outside, visiting their favorite bars and beaches, and both helping out pets in the area.

The action starts on Saturday, August 20 with a fun Poker Ride which starts off at California Burger at Heavenly Village. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. and the event starts at noon.

Poker hands will be collected at five stops, which include beaches and bars. The hands will be entered into the contest, with the worst and best winning bicycles.

Police arrest person of interest for sexual assault in South Lake Tahoe

A South Lake Tahoe man is behind bars after being identified as a possible suspect in at least one of the recent assault crimes in the community.

Oscar Raygoza Huerta, 23 of South Lake Tahoe, was arrested on Friday, August 5 on charges of assault intent to commit mayhem or rape, a felony. He is currently in the El Dorado County jail on a $100,000 bail hold.

Last week, South Lake Tahoe Police detectives released sketches of the suspect created after interviews with two of the victims. Leads from those photos led to the arrest.

Bandaged Bandit arrested after another bank robbery

A 22-year-old El Dorado Hills man is behind bars on suspicion of robbing several area banks between June 29 and July 25 from Stateline to Folsom with his face covered in bandages, earning him the nickname, the Bandaged Bandit.

On July 25 at 2:35 p.m., the US Bank on White Rock Road in El Dorado Hills was robbed by a suspect who fled into a wooded area southeast of the bank. Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol officers and helicopter started searching the area.

Cram-a-Cruiser event to gather food for Bread and Broth For Kids

Bread & Broth 4 Kids is holding their second Cram-A-Cruiser event at the Grocery Outlet on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The non-profit fills up bags of food every Friday for 120 South Lake Tahoe children who are in need of extra food over the weekend when they aren't able to receive the free lunches and breakfasts offered at school.

A South Lake Tahoe Police car will be in the parking lot in front of the store and the object will be to fill it up with as much food as possible that will be going into the kid's bags.

St. Patrick's Day DUI checkpoint in South Lake Tahoe

With St. Patrick's Day being one of the biggest holidays centered around partying, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department is having a DUI Checkpoint as well as extra patrols on the roads to help lower deaths and injuries.

The checkpoint will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. The location has not been disclosed.

Bartenders arrested on drug charges in Incline Village

Two Incline Village bartenders are facing narcotics charges after being arrested by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office All Threats All Crimes (ATAC) Unit.

A series of undercover operations took place between January 28 and February 4, 2016 and were directed towards bartenders at local bars and grills who were suspected of selling drugs to patrons.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested after pulling knife on grandmother

A man is behind bars on suspicion of pulling a knife on his grandmother and threatening to kill her on Friday night in South Lake Tahoe.

On November 20, 2015, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to a home on Candlewood Drive at 11:35 p.m. A 73-year-old woman had gone to a neighbor's house where she called 911 after her grandson, 30-year-old Jesse Shane Gage, displayed a large knife and threatened to kill her.

Gage, who lives with his grandmother, was arrested and charged with terrorizing, trying to harm an elderly person and exhibiting a deadly weapon.

Burning Man skydiver killed in Paris attacks

Pierro Jacare Innocenti, 40, of Paris, was killed when gunmen stormed the sold-out Eagles of Death Metal show that Innocenti was attending at the Bataclan Concert Hall. Innocenti posted a photo on his Facebook page of the concert billboard with the comment “Rock!” at 8:45 p.m., less than an hour before three gunmen gunned down 89 people at the venue.

On Friday evening, gunmen and suicide bombers with the Islamic State, or ISIS, almost simultaneously targeted the concert hall, a major stadium, restaurants and bars in Paris, leaving at least 129 people dead and hundreds wounded.

Local families present inaugural Rock Tahoe Half Marathon

The inaugural Rock Tahoe Half Marathon will bring approximately 5,000 people
including runners, friends, and family to South Lake Tahoe this weekend as they Run, Rock, and Recover in this one of a kind event.

On Saturday, June 20, 2,000 runners will take off along the 13.1-mile course from Spooner Summit and wind their way down Highway 50 along the East Shore of Lake Tahoe to the finish line at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. The course will also take runners off the highway along the newly completed forest bike path from Round Hill Pines to Kahle Drive.

Hard Rock Lake Tahoe announces BaseJam Summer Concert Series

Summer in South Lake Tahoe means being outdoors and enjoying life, and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino announced today one more thing to enjoy: more outdoor concerts.

A temporary 7,500 seat outdoor area is being created on the back parking lot of Hard Rocky Hotel & Casino in Lake Tahoe in order to host the “BaseJam Summer 2015 Outdoor Concert Series.”

A summer full of concerts at the new casino on the South Shore will start with the 3rd Annual Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival on June 27. Also booked is the Lake Tahoe Bluegrass Festival which is slated for July 11.

No dogs allowed — in the bar

Chances are, the beast sitting on the bar stool next to you won’t be a real dog.

A measure heard Monday by the Senate Government Affairs Committee seeks to allow operators of stand-alone bars, saloons and taverns to allow dogs inside their establishments without interference from local government overseers.

But county health officials testified against Senate Bill 105, sponsored by Sen. James Settelmeyer, R-Minden.

Settelmeyer introduced the bill at the request of Karen Woodmansee, editor of the Virginia City News in Storey County. She also works at a local casino.

CHP starts weekend campaign; Don't Drink and Drive on Super Bowl Sunday

The California Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to be on the winning team on Super Bowl Sunday by not drinking and driving. With plenty of parties around the South Shore, including those at the casinos, local bars and private homes, the opportunities to drink will be plentiful.

California's Office of Traffic Safety reports a DUI arrest can add up to more than $17,000. The biggest hit comes from insurance premium increases, which can be upwards of $12,000.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino opens in South Lake Tahoe

It was a huge project, remodeling an aging hotel and casino that hadn't seen glory days in decades. Many thought seven months wasn't going to be enough time to turn the old Horizon casino into a fresh and new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. All doubts were tossed aside Wednesday night as the epic rock and roll branded property opened up to large crowds, full bars and packed table games.
