Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation announces 2011-12 programs, scholarship opportunities

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation has opened registration for the 2011 – 2012 Alpine, Freestyle, Freeride and Snowboard Programs. With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Lake Tahoe foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. Registration packets are available online, at the HSSF building, or by calling the HSSF administration office. Those who register and pay in full now will receive the early registration pricing; prices increase $100 on November 1, 2011.

New landmark installed at Lake Tahoe Golf Course

After two months of sweat, scrapes, carving and lots of attention paid to detail, a new sign went up Tuesday at Lake Tahoe Golf Course, marking a generation of landmarks that bring in an all-encompassing natural environment perspective.
With the design furnished by Lake Tahoe Golf Course, Jeanette Minier developed, constructed and hand-carved the sign which is now perched at the entrance of the golf course at 2500 Emerald Bay Road. Final touches with masonry continues.

More city services on the chopping block; budget meeting Thursday

A special meeting of the South Lake Tahoe City Council to discuss the 2011-12 budget will be held this Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7pm. Not only is this the first look the public will have at the proposed budget, but this may be the only opportunity for public input before layoffs in crucial departments like streets and recreation. The regular council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Gas station proposal goes to Planning Commission today

The South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission is scheduled to vote today on whether to approve a new gas station, car wash and convenience store at the “Y”
shopping center.
The project would replace the vacant service station at 1020 Emerald Bay Road, next to the Raley’s supermarket, which was recently demolished.

California free fishing day this Saturday

The second of California’s two free Fishing Days will be over the Labor Day holiday weekend on Saturday, Sept. 3. The other Free Fishing Day was back on July 2. You can fish, all day, without a fishing license.
You'll be able to fish wherever you like in California. However, you will need to abide by the rules and regulations that govern whatever water(s) you will be fishing.
So, be sure to obey those rules and regulations. Don’t do something illegal. If you do, and if you get caught, it could be very expensive.
