SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Vail Resorts’ second annual EpicPromise Progress Report was released this week, showing they gave away $14.5 in community and employee grants in the areas their resorts are located. In the Lake Tahoe area, $1.9 million in grants was given to 93 local organizations.

340 new bike racks installed around Lake Tahoe in past two years

Community meeting on vision plan for Kahle Drive and surrounding area

Basecamp Pizza raises $17,250 for Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation

Stateline redevelopment area remains intact after Douglas County Commissioners' decision

STATELINE, Nev. - Douglas County Redevelopment Area No. 2 (RDA2) at Stateline is moving forward despite a move to have it dissolved by Douglas County Commissioner Dave Nelson.

There was an overflow crowd at the commissioner's June 20 meeting at Lake Tahoe. Many of those who could not fit in the meeting room were accommodated with audio feed in the judges' chambers and the bottom floor of the parking garage.

Free food for South Lake Tahoe youth all summer with Bread & Broth 4 Kids program

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the third consecutive summer, the St. Theresa Bread & Broth 4 Kids Summer Program will provide weekly food bags for South Lake Tahoe youth until school resumes in August. During the school year more than 2,000 local students receive free or reduced cost meals at breakfast and lunch, but that program doesn't cover weekends or summers and that is where Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) comes in. In the 2018-19 school year, BB4K supplied over 180 bags of food each Friday to local youth and last summer 225 bags of food were given away each week.

Annual Lake Tahoe report: 10.5 more feet of clarity in 2018

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - What a difference a year can make! In 2018, the annual test of Lake Tahoe's clarity value made a drastic change and improved to 70.9 feet. This is 10.5 more feet than was seen in 2017.

In the release of their annual report, the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) in Incline Village said a return to more normal weather and streamflow conditions was responsible for this change.

19th annual Snapshot Day to unveil conditions in Lake Tahoe and Truckee River

For the past 18 years, volunteers have been monitoring water quality conditions across the Lake Tahoe and Truckee River watersheds, collecting data at a single point in time to better understand the area as a whole. It is a bi-state collaborative that can achieve a larger watershed approach to successful data collection.

On May 17 and 18, 2019, volunteers will once again head out and perform a variety of tests including temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, algae, and nitrogen.

South Lake Tahoe route set for the Amgen 2019 men's race

Merger of El Dorado Savings with PacWest Bancorp terminated

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In September, PacWest Bancorp announced the signing of a definitive agreement and plan of merger with El Dorado Savings, a transaction that was valued at approximately $466.7 million at the time.

Now the deal is off.

At a meeting of El Dorado shareholders on January 9, 2019, the transaction did not receive the two-thirds affirmative vote of outstanding shares as required under applicable federal law.

SnowGlobe on the South Lake Tahoe City Council agenda

Ribbon cutting welcomes Chase Bank to the South Lake Tahoe community

Health assessment of South Lake Tahoe shows mental health and substance abuse at top of needs list

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A study on the health needs of the South Lake Tahoe community has once again put mental health and mental disorders at the top of the list, followed by substance abuse, and access to healthcare services.

Every three years Barton Health conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment to identity the key health issues facing the area. They use a systematic, data-driven process to determine the health status, concerns, and needs of residents in the South Tahoe community.

The 2018 results are a follow-up to similar studies completed in 2012 and 2015.

Judge halts ban on South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals, for now

US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project approved by TRPA

LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV - It's been 38 years in the making. On Thursday, November 15, 2018, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Board of Directors unanimously approved the final joint environmental document for the US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project, also known as the "Loop Road."

Last week, the board of the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) unanimously approved the same document, the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS/EIS).

Reno-Tahoe area no longer in the running to host 2030 Winter Olympics

On Monday, the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition (RTWGC) announced it has officially declined an invitation to bid for a future Winter Olympics. With their departure, Salt Lake City and Denver remain as the last two selected finalists by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to be a future bid city.

They had a deadline of November 9, 2018 to submit responses to a detailed workbook covering the areas of bid vision, venue planning, transportation planning, security, budgets and public engagements among other topics.

MTV acquires SnowGlobe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It started as a dream of Chad Donnelly's after growing up in Colorado and attending Denver Broncos football games in the cold and snow. He thought to himself, if people will attend a football game and sit in the snow, why not a concert?

That observation turned into an internationally recognized event in South Lake Tahoe where electronic music fans have headed to for three days, December 29-31, since 2011. In that first year, 28,995 tickets were over the three days and it grossed $1.5 million.

American Century and LTVA award almost $79k to South Shore nonprofits
