Christmas tree permits go on sale Monday in Lake Tahoe - other forests already on sale
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/20/2019 - 12:46amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will begin the sale of Christmas tree permits on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Permits cost $10 each payable by cash, check or credit card (though they prefer the quicker transaction of cash).
There is a change to the policy this year - only one permit will be allowed per family or per address, instead of the previous two. They said by limiting permits to one per family, more will enjoy cutting down a tree this year.

The VIP three-day passes are all sold out, but single festival tickets make it easier for fans of specific artists or time constraints. A limited quantity of Advanced Single Day general admission and VIP tickets have been released.
When the 'Advanced' ticket tier sells out their 'Last Chance' tickets will immediately go on sale, normally at a higher rate than those purchased early.

Missoula Children’s Theatre auditions for The Tortoise Versus the Hare

LTCC women's soccer team on top of national coaches poll for 4th straight week

On September 25 they rose to the top spot of the list and haven't left since then.
Fresno City College is currently in the second spot, a team they tied during a September 20 match-up, 1-1. The team the women lost too in last year's state final, Santiago Canyon College, dropped to the twelfth-ranked team.

One of those prizes went to 14-year-old Sebastian Kilgore, a freshman at South Tahoe High School. Blue Zone Sports selected the young man who competes in slopestyle and rail events in the USAA South Tahoe Series. Kilgore had a very successful 2018-19 season and placed fourth in Nationals where his "Front 630 Off Rail" won the "Best Trick" award.

This was the 17th year the Moose Lodge has hosted this free event for children in the Lake Tahoe area.
Registration began at 8:00 am and wrapped up at 2:00 p.m. Hot dogs, chips, sodas, and water were provided free to all registered children.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) will host two networking mixers. On the South Shore, their networking mixer is on Wednesday, October 9, and on the North Shore, the mixer is on Tuesday, October 15.
Everyone in the community are invited to attend these events, regardless of age. Although membership is encouraged and available for purchase at events, it is not required.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Clean Tahoe is hosting an event on Thursday afternoon with South Lake Tahoe native and Olympian Jamie Anderson, Don't Talk Trash - Pick It Up Scavenger Hunt.
On October 3 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., join the community at Lakeside Beach and participate in a trash pick up. Be at the beach at 3:30 p.m. to get supplies and scorecards. The fun begins at 3:50 p.m. and all have exactly one hour to clean the beach and neighborhood. Prizes will then be handed out.
No need to RSVP, just show up and have fun while helping the environment.

"Coffee With a Cop" celebrated all week in South Lake Tahoe; First Responder Friday too
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/30/2019 - 9:55pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - National Coffee With a Cop day may be on October 2, but the Starbucks at the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe is going to celebrate the day all week long....and it won't be just for cops.
From open to close, the Starbucks located at 1064 Emerald Bay Road will offer free coffee and pastries to law enforcement and fire fighting personnel, with free coffee for those stopping by to chat. On Monday, some of the officers even stepped behind the counter to make some coffees for patrons.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The annual Fall Fish Festival returns to the South Shore on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 and 6, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Celebrate the annual fall migration of the Kokanee salmon at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on SR-89.
The Fall Fish Festival focuses on a variety of fish species that live in Lake Tahoe and its rivers. In addition to the Kokanee, these species include the federally threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout and little-known smaller fish, such as speckled dace.
Free green waste dump day at South Tahoe Refuse

South Tahoe Refuse is taking in all of your pine needles, branches, and other items from the yard during their Clean Green Waste Free Dump Day on Saturday, October 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Customers living in the South Tahoe Refuse service area in El Dorado County, City of South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County are invited to stop by that day at the Resource Recovery Building at 2121 Eloise Avenue.

Women's Soccer Team at LTCC ranked #1 in national coach's poll
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/27/2019 - 4:59pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In 2018 the Lake Tahoe Community College's Women's Soccer team made an impression on coaches around the country and they became the #2 ranked Division III team during the season. Their epic season took them to the state finals.
Fast forward to this year and the 2019 Lady Coyotes made it to the number one on the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NJCAA poll for Division III this week. Fresno City College is currently in the second spot, a team they tied during a September 20 match-up, 1-1.
Fox & Hound reopens after deck fire forced closure in July

For 27 plus years, Fox & Hound has served locals and visitors with great food and a great view of the Carson Valley. They are located near the Ridge Tahoe, Nevada-side ski lifts, Tahoe Rim Trail.
Suicide prevention: Working together to save a life
