Water theft becomes common consequence of ongoing California drought
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/12/2015 - 3:17pmWith the state of California mired in its fourth year of drought and a mandatory 25 percent reduction in water usage in place, reports of water theft have become common.
In April, The Associated Press reported that huge amounts of water went missing from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and a state investigation was launched. The delta is a vital body of water, serving 23 million Californians as well as millions of farm acres, according to the Association for California Water Agencies.

Remains of man missing since 2006 found in rural area of county
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/03/2015 - 12:44amThe remains of a homicide victim, killed more than nine years ago and unearthed last week in rural El Dorado County, have been identified.
The El Dorado County Cold Case Homicide Task Force announced Thursday that it located and identified the human remains of Tobias Kaiser who was last seen at his home in Somerset, CA on November 30, 2006.
South Lake Tahoe Powerball winner comes forward

That is because she came forward to claim her $708,769 Powerball prize. Emmons matched the numbers 24-44-31-11 and 40 on a $20 Quick Pick® ticket, missing only the Powerball number 27 for the March 11th drawing.
As South Tahoe Now carried the story on March 12, that lucky ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 3923 Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe.

Body of missing Carson City man found near Spooner Summit
Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/09/2015 - 7:57pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday that a missing Carson City man, Bruce Hutter, has been found dead off of Kings Canyon Road in Douglas County.
The body of Hutter was found inside a white passenger car discovered Sunday by a couple four-wheel driving in a rugged area of Kings Canyon.
Dale Trembath said he and his wife were four-wheel driving at around 2:30 p.m. in the canyon when they decided to go down a steep area. He said he looked and saw the car that he described as a white Dodge Neon, and walked over to it.

City of South Lake Tahoe wants to create long term occupancy ordinance
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/05/2015 - 12:08amMotels and hotels being used for long term occupancy is a problem across the country and South Lake Tahoe is no different.
Of the 120 motels and hotels in the city limits, 58 of them are being used for long term occupancy. 1,300 rooms are now rented for long periods of time. These units were not built for people to live in long term as there is no refrigeration or cooking facilities, and many times there are families living in a room meant for just two people for a night or two.

Accurate information about missing children is necessary immediately after a child goes missing, but with panicked parents this may not be as easy as one would think.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has created an app for iPhones and android phones so parents can keep information about their children at their fingertips.

Garner’s disappearance is not only affecting her family, but also her friends, classmates, and the entire Ashland community.

Candlelight vigil held for Dejon Smith; Tribute at STHS

It marks one week since 14-year old Dejon Smith went missing after spending time with friends during a storm with high winds and rain. His body was found under a fallen tree two days later.
