New Terrain Opens at Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Mountain Resort
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/16/2014 - 8:23pmJust in time for the Martin Luther King holiday, Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Mountain Resort is opening Boulder Lodge, Boulder Lift and Boulder Bowl on the Nevada side of the mountain.
Even with only 2-3" of new snow over the last few weeks, snow making operations are going to allow skiers to access the mountain from all four base mountain lodges.
Also opening on Saturday is Groove run for ski-thru, with a single jib line featuring seven small rails and boxes on the left-hand side of the run as well as EpicMix Racing, located on lower Ridge Run.

Stores are allowed to sell their current stock of the popular general service light bulbs. Some of the incandescent bulbs will still be allowed though, including three way, 150 watt and narrower based candelabra lights.

With the opening of Skyline Trail and California Trail, guests will be able to ski and ride to and from the California side to the Nevada side and access top-to-bottom skiing and riding on the Nevada side. With the California opening, the resort will operate 19 lifts, accessing 17 trails and 13.5 miles of skiable terrain.

The University of Nevada, Reno is set to hold the 57th Lake Tahoe Music Camp July 21-27 at the Nevada State 4-H Camp. Each year, nearly 200 students in grades 8 through 12 participate in a week of music activities, rehearsals, team building exercises and recreation time, all on the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe.
The camp is filled with jazz and classical music workshops, clinics, performances, mentoring and instruction with award-winning University faculty, guest conductors, professional Chamber singers and jazz musicians and more.
Intercollegiate soccer launched at Lake Tahoe Community College

The LTCC Board of Trustees voted in favor of launching the soccer program at its last meeting on June 25. LTCC’s Physical Education Department is developing the curriculum surrounding the program, and a decision on a new team name and mascot will soon follow.
Job announcements for the related coaching positions will be released in August, with hiring decisions finalized by October. The new men’s and women’s soccer teams will take the field competitively starting in September 2014.

Elizabeth Carmel appointing to TRPA Governing Board
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 05/21/2013 - 10:22amElizabeth Carmel, a former land use planner and advisor with extensive experience working in the Sierra, has joined the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board following her appointment by California Assembly Speaker John Perez (D-Los Angeles).
The seat is one of 14 voting positions on the environmental planning agency’s board - seven representing California and seven representing Nevada. One board seat, appointed by the President of the United States, is non-voting.
