Valhalla Holiday Faire celebrates 17th year at Lake Tahoe

The magnificent Valhalla Grand Hall, of the vintage 1924 ‘Heller Estate’, listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places hosts the 17th annual Valhalla Holiday Faire Nov.16-18. Featuring a 40-foot high spectacular natural stone fireplace, the Grand Hall will be decorated in a festive Holiday mode. Twenty-five local vendors and artists will be offering a varied assortment of hand-made and other special items for purchase. Father Christmas comes to visit as local school choirs and other musical groups perform through out the two day Holiday Festival.

Hike for Housing Fundraiser

El Dorado County Habitat for Humanity & St. Joseph Community Land Trust will hold its annual Hike for Housing Fundraiser, 9am-3pm Spooner Lake on Sept. 15. The Hike for Housing event raises funds for affordable housing locally. Bring the family and enjoy a leisurely stroll (2 miles) around Spooner Lake or hike all the way to Marlette Lake (moderate hike). Pre-register by 9/10/12 for $15/pp or $25/per family. Beach benefit for South Shore Lake Tahoe local Sean Riley set for August 15

In May, local community member Sean Riley suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a succession of blackouts and falls. A Beach Bash Benefit is being held to help offset Sean’s medical expenses on Wednesday, August 15, 5-8 p.m., at Zephyr Cove Resort.
Sean is an off-road tour guide for Lake Tahoe Adventures and his wife, Georgette, works for the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and Tahoe Chamber. Sean has been hospitalized since May and came home this week and is now under 24-hour care. He is doing better, but does have some issues with comprehension and memory as a result of the injury, and has a long road to recovery requiring extensive therapy, home supervision and care.

Music at The Moose Outdoor Concert with Trey Stone Band to Benefit Tahoe Arts Project

When the South Lake Tahoe arts community calls out, Trey Stone and his band are there to headline the show. The community is invited to join the Trey Stone Band for three hours of R&B, funk and soul at an outdoor concert — Music at the Moose — to benefit the Tahoe Arts Project at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 25, at the Moose Lodge, 961 Eloise Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.
The cost is $10 for adults and free for children. Dished up for purchase at this community benefit concert include burgers and hot dogs, soda, ice cream, and more. There's a cash bar available and a raffle will be held. All proceeds benefit the Tahoe Arts Project.

Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Arts Festival

The Wa She Shu It’ Deh Native American Arts Festival at the Valhalla Grand Lawn July 28-29 features traditional American Indian dancers and drum performers, basket weaving displays, art, and great food. The basket weaving competition features over fourteen different categories. The Washoe are highly regarded for their master craftsmanship of baskets and have had several well-known weavers throughout their history, including Dat So La Lee.

Tahoe Derby Dames First Home Bout of the Season on June 16

The Tahoe Derby Dames will be hosting the first home bout of the season on Saturday, June 16th at the outdoor flat track at Bijou Community Park. The home opener will feature a double header with the Tahoe Derby Dames splitting into two squads. The opening bout pits the Tahoe Derby Dames against the Riverside Roller Belles, followed by the main event with the veteran squad for the Tahoe Derby Dames vs. The Port City Roller Girls from Stockton, CA.

Potluck with Entertainment and Speaker

Winter White was the theme at Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ (TRYP) inaugural holiday party raising more than $3,000 for Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) on Saturday, November 19 at Riva Grill.

“I was speechless,” Heather Avila, TYFS Alcohol and Drug Counselor and The Girls Project Coordinator said. “It was an emotional moment for me. I have never seen generosity in such abundance!”

Tournament at Edgewood Tahoe raises $39,614 for Boys and Girls Club

The 18th Annual Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Golf Tournament raised $39,614 during the Oct. 17 event held at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, funds which will support various programs for area kids. In addition to 120 players, the event raised money through sponsor donations, raffle tickets and a silent auction.

Regional transportation issues will be focus of November workshops

The Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization will host two workshops November 1 and 3 to get public input on transportation priorities. The workshops are part of a four-year update of the Regional Transportation Plan (Mobility 2035) being carried out by TMPO and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. The agencies encourage public input to better serve the needs of the community, according to TRPA Transportation Planning Manager Nick Haven.

Tahoe Toy Run

The 21st annual Tahoe Toy Run roll through South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, Oct. 1, The South Lake Tahoe event is a major fundraiser for Christmas Cheer, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food to needy families and Christmas toys to underprivileged children. Motorcycles will start at the Horizon Casino at Stateline beginning at 10 a.m. and parade down Highway 50, led by Santa Claus, to the Lake Tahoe Airport. Entertainment will include raffle prizes, auction, barbecue, and live music featuring the Cash Only band and Deep Fryed Mojo playing from noon to 8 p.m.
