Dedication for Latest Phase of Stateline to Stateline Bike Path

The official dedication of South Lake Tahoe's 1.2-mile shared-use bike path that connects Elks Point and Round Hill Pines and provides access to Rabe Meadow with Nevada Beach and Round Hill Pines Resort will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 12 p.m.

The second segment of the Stateline-to-Stateline Bikeway, South Shore Demonstration Project adds to the existing path for a total of 2.2 miles. Meanwhile, the North Demonstration Project is expected to begin construction in 2015 and the first phase will connect Incline Village to Sand Harbor State Park.

Sand Harbor Shuttle Service in Place for Summer

There is a park and ride system for Sand Harbor in place once again for the summer of 2014.

In it's third year, the Tahoe Transportation District’s East Shore Express, the shuttle bus provides rides Incline Village to Sand Harbor. They are able to do so with a federal grant and funds gathered from the selling of Lake Tahoe License Plates.

Motorcyclist Safety Encouraged in Nevada

Fifty-three motorcyclists died on Nevada roadways in 2013, surpassing the previous year’s number of fatalities by 39 percent, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety (OTS).

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval proclaimed May 2014 as Motorcycle Safety Month, focusing on the motorcycle as an important form of transportation, and reminding its riders and all motorists of important safety guidelines.

NHP Keeping an Eye on Bicyclists and Motorists on the Road

The Nevada Highway Patrol recently stepped up enforcement of Nevada's Share the Road laws, pulling over 200 motorists who violated the law and issued them warnings.

Now its turn for the NHP to turn the tables and watch for bicyclists not in compliance.

9 Year Old Hailed a Hero After Lake Tahoe Area Snowmobile Accident

Nine year old Bode Bierdneau of Marin County is credited with saving his father after a snowmobile accident near Blue Lakes in Alpine County on Sunday.

The two were each riding their own snowmobiles when Bode's father, John Taylor (JT), lost control and crashed into a tree and was partially ejected. He was partially trapped under his Skidoo as his left leg became entangled with the machine. Bode dug out his father, but with his dad's femur broken he couldn't walk.

Share The Road Campaign Started in Northern Nevada

In an effort to keep bicyclists safer on Nevada roads, the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has joined forces with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) in a SHARE THE ROAD campaign. They will be stepping up enforcement to ensure that motor vehicles are sharing the roads with the bicyclists and reducing the accidents between the two.

Spring is here which means Nevadans will be taking to the road to get some exercise and soak up some sun, so you will begin to see more people biking along the roads in Nevada.

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California and Kirkwood Mountain Resort, opened up sales for their 2014-15 season passes.

Starting at $409 with as little as $49 down and the balance due in the fall, skiers and riders have until April 13 to secure the best available price for winter 2014-15 season passes and six buddy tickets.

South Lake Tahoe's Jamie Anderson Continues Her Winning Ways

Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe landed another major slopestyle victory at the Burton U.S. Open Friday. Anderson clinched the TTR World Snowboard Tour slopestyle title with her win at the snowy Vail Mountain venue. Canadian Spencer O’Brien took second and Isabel Derungs of Switzerland third in the women’s final. Canada’s Mark McMorris took the victory for the men with Norwegian Stale Sandbech taking second and Candian Max Parrot third.

South Lake Tahoe Hit & Run Victim Recovering; Family Needs Assistance

What started off as a normal afternoon and evening on February 10 ended in what could have been a very tragic accident. 15 year old Abijah Ahsan Sequoiyah of South Lake Tahoe was riding his bike near his home and was at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Third Street when a car driven by an unknown person struck him, carried him through the intersection, ran over him and fled the scene.

Heavenly Celebrating New Snow By Opening More Terrain

South Lake Tahoe - This past week's storm dropped two feet of snow in the mountains of Lake Tahoe, allowing Heavenly Mountain Resort to open 15 trails in the past three days

Heavenly now offers 19 miles of skiing and riding on a total of 39 trails, accessed by 24 lifts. They are opened on weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lake Tahoe Skiers Enjoying Fresh Powder

Skiers and riders rejoiced today at Heavenly Mountain Resort as a much anticipated storm dumped 10-12 inches by 8 am this morning and totaled 18-20 inches at 3 pm today. The snow is expected to continue falling overnight and into Friday, setting resort guests up for a weekend of snow-filled fun.

Free Bus Rides in South Lake Tahoe Until January 5

Passengers will be riding Blue GO buses along Highway 50 for free through January 5. Routes 50 and 53 run from the "Y" to the Kahle Community Center from 5 am to 11 pm.

Tahoe Transportation District is offering the free rides to keep cars off the road during the higher traffic holiday season and to show riders how they can help the South Lake Tahoe air quality and to see how convenient, comfortable and affordable the bus system is.

Heavenly Opens the California Side on Saturday

Heavenly Mountain Resort will open the California side of the resort on Saturday, December 21, expanding open terrain to include Ridge Run, Patsy’s, Maggie’s, Skyline Trail, Sky Chute, and the beginner areas of the Enchanted Forest and DMZ near the California Main Lodge. With the opening of Skyline Trail and California Trail, guests will be able to ski and ride to and from the California side to the Nevada side and access top-to-bottom skiing and riding on the Nevada side. With the California opening, the resort will operate 19 lifts, accessing 17 trails and 13.5 miles of skiable terrain.

Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts Prepare for the Holidays

Last week’s winter storm dropped up to three feet of fresh natural snow on Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort, creating a winter wonderland and allowing the resorts to open more terrain for skiers and riders hoping for a white holiday season.

18th Annual Holiday Faire at Valhalla

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Snow on the ground, a decorated Grand Hall which is home to the 18th Annual Holiday Bazaar at Valhalla Friday through Sunday. Local artists and vendors will have a variety of hand crafted and other special items for purchase.

On Saturday and Sunday there will also be performances by the local school choirs and other musical groups, Santa will stop by to spread holiday cheer and an assortment of hot cider, hot mulled wine and holiday cookies will be available for purchase.

Terri Arnold of South Lake Tahoe Wins Carson Valley Rider Contest

Humor and distinctive footwear shone through in a contest to find a spokeswoman for the Carson Valley. In September, the Carson Valley Visitors Authority announced its nationwide search for a “storyteller on horseback.” Fifteen women answered the call and in video submissions, which ranged from a poetic ode to the Carson Valley to a distinctive pair of pink stilettos, made their case to be the area’s spokeswoman.

23rd Annual Lake Tahoe Toy Run to Benefit Christmas Cheer

Street Vibrations Bringing Motorcyclists to Area. 1 Killed, 4 Hurt in Tahoe and Carson Collisons

With thousands of motorcyclists expected for Street Vibrations there is extra caution urged on public roadways. As of noon today there have been 3 accidents involving bikers on the road in Lake Tahoe and Carson City, resulting in 1 death and 4 hospitalizations.

Two people were hospitalized after a crash shortly before 10 a.m. at North Carson Street and Medical Parkway. A man was flown by Care Flight to Renown hospital; the other person was taken by ambulance to Renown.

NHP continues to investigate July 30 crash near Cave Rock where toddler died

The Nevada Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal July 30 crash on Highway 50 east of Cave Rock at Lake Tahoe in which a 3-year-old toddler died.

Bicyclist flown to Renown after being struck by utility truck

A 25-year-old man riding a bicycle was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno early Tuesday morning after being hit by a utility truck, South Lake Tahoe police report.

The bicyclist, Donovan Boling, sustained significant injuries in the accident, reported at 2:45 a.m. in the area of Wildwood Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The 29-year-old driver of the truck told South Lake Tahoe police that he didn't see the bicyclist when the accident happened. The bicyclist was reported to not being wearing a helmet.

Child dies in head-on crash near Cave Rock on Highway 50

Nevada Highway Patrol officials say a 3-year-old girl is dead after a vehicle crossed a double-yellow line near South Lake Tahoe and caused a three-car crash.

Troopers say the child was riding in a car that was hit head-on on Highway 50 a little before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Bicyclist runs red light, crashes into skateboarder

On Wednesday, July 17 at around 8:30 p.m. South Lake Tahoe Police officers responded to the intersection of US Highway 50 with Heavenly Village Way to investigate an injury traffic collision.

Steven Magelssen, 20, of South Lake Tahoe, was riding his bicycle southbound on US Highway 50 in the center left turn lane. He was approaching a red traffic signal at Heavenly Village Way. Pablo Bobadilla, 23, of South Lake Tahoe, was riding his skateboard, and in the company of other pedestrians, while attempting to cross Highway 50 in a marked crosswalk.

NHP conducts holiday DUI checkpoint near Lake Tahoe in Douglas County

Several northern Nevada law enforcement agencies will be teaming up and “Joining Forces” this Independence Day as an additional security measure in providing for a safe holiday weekend.

On Thursday afternoon and evening, police officers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, deputies from the Washoe and Lyon County Sheriff’s Offices, and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will be conducting the administrative road block on U.S. Highway 50 in Douglas County.

Head-on crash near Zephyr Cove sends three to hospital

A head on crash on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning sent three to the hospital, one via Care Flight, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

NHP troopers continue to investigate why two vehicles collided on US Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove in Douglas County earlier today. The accident took place approximately a half-mile west of Zephyr Cove at around 6:50 am Wednesday morning.

Lodi woman identified in Zephyr Cove fatal crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Lodi, Calif., woman as the victim of a two-vehicle fatal crash that happened Sunday on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe.

Reyna Vizcaara, 24, died at the scene of the crash, reported at 2:55 p.m., said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. Four others were injured and taken to area hospitals, including three Carson City residents. Two remain hospitalized.

SLTPD to honor citizen who played critical role in 2012 DUI bike-vehicle accident

One of the people to be honored this week at the annual South Lake Tahoe police awards ceremony is the man who was instrumental in helping save the life of Adam Rose and apprehend Christine Whalen. Rose continues to struggle to heal from the devastating August 2012 accident in which he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike.

Armed South Lake Tahoe man arrested after allegedly strangling mother

A 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Wednesday and faces felony battery and resisting charges after allegedly strangling his mother until she was unconscious and then eluding police on a bicycle, authorities said.

Skylor Klisch was arrested after South Lake Tahoe police officers caught up with him during a chase in which the man was peddling a bicycle near Lake Tahoe Boulevard. He was found to be in possession of a 22-caliber hand gun with ammunition. The battery happened on Tahoe Island Drive at around 6:30 a.m.

Tahoe trails need your help to win $33k for improved recreation; vote on Facebook

Out of more than 100 applications from around the country, Corral Trail located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. was chosen as one of four “flow trails” to be voted on Bell Helmet’s Facebook page.

The other two trail types selected were pump tracks/bike park and downhill. Bell Helmets is offering up to $100,000 in technical assistance grants to fund three new mountain bike projects to be built by International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Trail Solutions through the Bell Built Grant.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the Eric Nageotte-Lowe Memorial Fundraiser to celebrate the life of former South Lake Tahoe resident and Heavenly Freestyle Team member, Eric Nageotte-Lowe this Saturday, Jan. 26, from 5pm to 8pm at the Himmel Haus, 2819 Saddle Rd. across from Heavenly Mountain’s California base area.

“While Eric was a great skier,” said his coach Jere Crawford, “he was an even better person.”
