SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Seven hundred people will be the recipients of the next Overland Meat & Seafood "Tacos for Tahoe" giveaway on Monday, October 26 starting at 10:00 a.m.

Brian Cohen, owner of the popular market in South Lake Tahoe, will be continuing what they did three different times at the beginning of the pandemic. At the first ground beef giveaway Cohen went through all 1,000 pounds of meat in 90 minutes.

This time he giving away 1,400 pounds.

"Many people are still struggling in our town," he said. "We are here to help out the community."

The El Dorado County Food Bank's mobile pantry will be in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, July 22 and they are looking for volunteers to assist with handing out food to the community.

They will be in the parking lot of St. Theresa Church at 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the public, but need volunteers starting at 9:00 a.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Nine weeks into the COVID-19 crisis, Bread & Broth is still providing food to those in the community who are being impacted by the loss or reduction of income due to the temporary closing of many of our communities’ businesses. Thanks to many generous monetary donors and volunteers, Bread & Broth is providing bags of food through their Monday and Friday food bag giveaway program at Grace Hall and B&B 4 Kids program.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As local residents and St. Theresa Church parishioners, Kevin and Jean Bauwens wanted to help those in need and decided that sponsoring a Bread & Broth (B&B) Adopt A Day of Nourishment would provide them with the opportunity to help feed those experiencing hunger in our community. So, on February 2, Kevin and Jean, along with their daughter, Carrie Bauwens, and granddaughter, Isabel Telles, hosted the Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall.

On December 23, Andy and Ellen Dauscher, and their daughters Ali and Carleigh, shared the blessings of the holiday season with the dinner guests attending Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal dinner. Thanks to their Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship, the Dauscher Family funded B&B’s meal, and as a family, volunteered at the dinner to spread the holiday spirit and share the blessing of a holiday meal.

“What a wonderful way to start Christmas week,” shared Ellen. “We love helping our community members who are hungry. Thank you, Bread & Broth for letting us join you.”

The Saint Joseph Community Land Trust has invited the community to join them at their annual free pre-Thanksgiving Spaghetti Dinner, generously provided by the Knights of Columbus on Thursday, November 21.

Dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community, Bread & Broth provides two meals every week to anyone who wants to enjoy a hot, nutritious dinner. Currently, due to the fire at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, both dinners are served at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall. B&B’s Monday Meal serves a hot, full course dinner and the Friday Second Serving provides soup and a simple entree. Attending any of B&B’s dinners is a great way to enjoy a great meal!

With a big winter snow storm hitting the Tahoe area on Monday, February 2, there was no better crew to have sponsor the Adopt A Day of Nourishment meal than Heavenly’s Ski Patrol members. This crew braved the snowy roads and whiteout conditions to come to St. Theresa Church Grace Hall and help provide a hot and filling beef stroganoff dinner to the hungry folks who faced difficult conditions to attend B&B’s Monday Meal.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A fire that damaged the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church on Wednesday has prompted services to be discontinued as well as moving of the weekly Bread & Broth Second Serving.

The free Friday night meal is moved to St. Theresa Church from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Due to the damage, changes are until further notice.

Bread & Broth will be observing a special community Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, November 19 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Grace Hall at St. Theresa Church in South Lake Tahoe. This is Bread & Broth's 29th year of serving meals to those in need.

The traditional dinner will feature turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, green salad, rolls, and dessert.

The meal is free and open to all community members as it has been every Monday at Grace Hall since 1989. All are welcome!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth is a non-profit, all volunteer organization whose mission is to help ease hunger in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community. They are looking for community members who are interested in joining their dedicated team of volunteers.

Here are a few of the many available volunteer opportunity openings for contributing to Bread & Broth's (B&B) programs:

The Tahoe Choir & Lake Tahoe Community College Chorus will present their holiday concert, "A Christmas of Hope, Peace, & Joy" in South Lake Tahoe December 1 and 3, 2017 at St. Theresa Church.

On Friday, December 1, the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, December 3, at at 3:00 p.m.

Tickets may be obtained from choir members, at the LTCC Bookstore, or one hour before each performance at the church. $2 of each ticket to be donated to the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Fund. Ticket prices are: $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, free for children under 5.

Over 700 bags of food have been distributed to the youth of South Lake Tahoe so far this summer thanks to a partnership between Bread & Broth 4 Kids (B&B4K) and Vail Resorts/Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Vail CEO Rob Katz and his wife Elana Amsterdam donated $125,000 to get a summer food program for youth up to the age of 18 started on the South Shore, and Bread & Broth and Family Resource Center worked together with Heavenly to make it happen.

Being a member of the Knights of Columbus means that you are there to help those in need. On Monday, May 15th, members of St. Theresa Church’s Knights of Columbus were doing just that as they volunteered their time to serve at B&B’s Monday Meal. They were a helpful and jovial group that welcomed and fed the hungry diners that came to Grace Hall for a full course, nutritious meal.

Base Camp Pizza, just one of many Tahoe Restaurant Group’s establishments, was the host for Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on January 2nd at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall. Their Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship is just one of the many ways that Ted Kennedy and members of his restaurant crews have been partnering with B&B. In addition to sponsoring AADs, Tahoe Restaurant Group has been sending helpers to assist B&B volunteers with the Monday Meal cleanup, purchasing dinner utensils and sponsoring and providing financial assistance and help whenever needed.

In October, Bread & Broth reached the 27-year milestone for serving meals to the Lake Tahoe South Shore community! Currently, Bread & Broth serves a full-course ‘Monday Meal’ at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall and a soup and simple entrée at ‘Second Serving’ at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church on Fridays. These two weekly meals and the food ‘give away’ bags distributed at the meals are supported by generous stores, businesses and restaurants who have donated food, beverages and soups to our program throughout the past year.

Steve Leonard died peacefully in the company of his family on Thursday, July 7 , 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen Leonard; children, Tess and Benjamin Leonard; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Brenda Leonard; brother, Jack Leonard ; nephews, Jon and Sam Leonard, and Lance Rominger. He is preceded by his parents, John and Opal Leonard, and sister, Sharon Leonard.

The members of the South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club (SLTYC) are a fun and active group who have a common interest in boating and enjoying beautiful Lake Tahoe. However, this social club is also committed to community involvement and on Monday, June 13th, the SLTYC sponsored their annual Bread & Broth “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” dinner held at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall.

Give mom the gift of song this year and attend the Tahoe Choir and Lake Tahoe Community College Chorus concert, A Mother's Day Gift of Song. There are two opportunities to watch this special show over the weekend.

On Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m., they will perform in LTCC's Duke Theatre, and Sunday, May 8 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Theresa Church located at 1041 Lyons Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

Matteucci is taking the students to Sutter's Fort for a living history experience as a culmination of their year long lessons on California history.

Easter Ham Bingo will take place on Saturday, March 19 at 5:00 p.m. at Grace Hall, located at St Theresa Church in South Lake Tahoe.

All entrants have a chance to win an Easter ham and other prizes.

Azul Latin Kitchen was the “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” sponsor for the Bread & Broth dinner served at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall on Monday, January 4. It is a great fit to have the Tahoe Restaurant’s Azul Latin Kitchen join with B&B to provide meals to local individuals who are in need of hot nutritious food along with a warm and secure place to spend an hour or two during Tahoe’s very cold winters.

Dan Deemer, a member of Kirkwood Mountain Resort’s Guest Services team, was one of the sponsor crew volunteers who came to help at Bread & Broth’s dinner on Monday, November 2nd. After spending time on the serving line dishing out generous portions of chili and pizza, he took a moment to jot down his views on his time spent at Kirkwood’s “Adopt A Day” dinner. “The opportunity to directly give back to the local community is extremely rewarding,” he wrote. “The appreciation of those who are in need can be seen in their smiling faces.”

“Bread & Broth provides a great service to the local community and we’re happy to be a part of serving the South Lake Tahoe community,” said Linda Mueller. Linda and husband, Jim Mueller are the owners of Adventure Mountain Resort Lake Tahoe and they have been sponsoring a B&B “Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD)” for the last three years. Hosting a Monday evening meal has been a family and business affair where over the years their sons and Adventure Mountain Resort team members have volunteered at their sponsorship dinners.
