The evening’s meal was lovingly prepared and served by the Filipino Community members for their annual Adopt-A-Day of Nourishment sponsorship. This fantastic group served up teriyaki chicken and vegetables, chicken adobo, steamed rice, coleslaw topped off with delicious desserts to the 93 attending dinner guests. Needless to say, there were no ‘leftovers’ at the end of the meal.
Master Gardener's workshops on growing food in Lake Tahoe

Learn how to grow vegetables in your Lake Tahoe garden this summer through a series of free workshops presented by the UCCE Master Gardeners. The classes are offered at both ends of the lake on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during May. This year's classes are potatoes, onions, raspberries, lettuce & kale, and tomatoes.
Each week will be a new theme. The workshops are all family friendly and attendees get to go home with plants for your home garden!
Classes will run from May 14 - June 14th, 2018 in the evenings.

Jeremy returned with Barbara and Craig Brittain who also volunteered at Jeremy’s January 1st sponsorship. This trio of helpers assisted the B&B volunteers in serving the 76 dinner guests who came to St. Theresa Grace Hall for a hot, nutritious meal. At the Mexican themed dinner, the diners had a choice of beef enchiladas, pork enchiladas, refried beans, festive veggies, green salad, fruit salad and a varies of pies, cookies and cakes for dessert.

Now, many years later, Jeremy is “paying it forward” by hosting three B&B dinners so that others can also benefit from the same nourishing meals that helped him when he and his family were experiencing difficult times.
South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge donates 50 boxes of food to local families

This week, members of the lodge will deliver 50 decorated boxes, each packed full of a ham, vegetables, canned goods, pasta, potatoes, bread, tortillas and everything else needed to feed a family a big holiday meal, and then more for leftovers.
This year's recipients will be selected by the Family Resource Center.

Thanks to Vail’s generous EpicPromise grant, Kirkwood Mountain Resort employees had the opportunity to volunteer at Bread & Broth’s November 6 Monday Meal through B&B’s ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishment' program. Kirkwood Security Officers Mark DeSacia, Rick Hofheins and Charlie Noury and David McCullers, Security Manager, all volunteered their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of those attending the meal served at Grace Hall.
Packaged salad mixes and vegetables recalled
Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/22/2017 - 11:22amEven though there has been no illnesses reported with their products, Mann Packing of Salinas, California is being cautious and voluntarily recalling minimally processed vegetable products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Mann Packing is issuing this recall in response to a single positive result found on one of their products during random sampling by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Over 20 brands of vegetable items from Walmart, Safeway/Albertson's and Trader Joe's have been pulled from shelves are part of the recall notice.

Now that South Tahoe and Whittell High Schools had their homecoming games Friday night, the rest of the weekend can be filled with everything from helping feed local youth, buying mattresses or playing golf for the high school, honoring one of the City's first leaders and enjoying the annual Fire Fest.
Big turn out for UCCE Plant Sale and Sierra House Grow Dome tours
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/10/2017 - 12:42amHundreds of plants grown under the green thumbs of UCCE Master Gardners of Lake Tahoe were sold Saturday morning during their annual plant sale.
Normally held in the spring, this year's event was moved to the fall due to a delayed start to the growing season due to the long winter we saw in the Sierra. The community apparently was ready for the sale as a long line of gardeners were already waiting when the doors opened at Sierra House Elementary.
A bonus this year were tours of the Sierra House Grow Domes as well as a Yard Art sale of the student's crafts.

This limber and very kind and thoughtful group of ladies was a joy to have hosting Bread & Broth’s July 24 Monday Meal. To Karen Eberlin, Shannon Liebel, Lucy McLaughlin, Susan Glasson and Liz Norman, B&B would like to thank you and would love to have your yoga group back any time.
The $250 donated for the sponsorship meal enabled the B&B cooks to offer pulled pork and roast beef sandwiches, broccoli, cole slaw, and fruit salad on the evening’s menu.

5th annual Farmers' Market held for Sierra House students

"Tastes from Around the World" was the them of the event where volunteers staffed booths which the students rotated through during the day.
No such thing as "just a burger" at Lake Tahoe's Hard Rock Cafe

Their 3rd annual World Burger Tour has been at the famous cafe since May 1, and goes just until June 25, so now may be your only chance to visit Argentina, Spain and Tennessee without an airline ticket.
Each year, legendary burgers from the chain's locations around the world enter their "local" burgers into a contest, and the winners are shared with others:

Natives and other perennials need more time to grow out of their overwintering slumber so the sale will be held in two segments. Instead of the meal being held at St. Theresa Grace Hall where the Monday Meal is normally served, the dinner guests were send a few buildings down to Globin Hall. Once there they were given food “giveaway” bags containing fruits, vegetables, dairy products and breads/pastries and a Box Lunch provided by the Hard Rock Café.

South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge to provide food for 50 families

What began as a small project with members filling up 15 boxes of food has grown into a much larger project with 50 families receiving the meals this holiday season.
Moose Lodge 1632 is asking for help from the community to fill these boxes. They are seeking donations of food to supplement the food boxes being prepared for distribution to needy families in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Thanks to the generosity of Friends of Temple Bat Yam, the dinner’s Adopt A Day sponsor, the diners enjoyed a tasty Mexican casserole prepared by B&B’s amazing cooks. The dinner guests also were provided with bags filled with dairy products, fruits, vegetables, breads and pastries provided by donations from local businesses and B&B donors.
Food Bank returns to South Lake Tahoe for free farmer's market and food distribution

The Food Bank of El Dorado County will be stopping by South Lake Tahoe on August 24 with their truck full of fresh fruit and vegetables and other emergency food supplies for those in need.
There is one allocation of supplies available for each qualifying household at the pantry distribution which will take place at the American Legion Hall at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd. from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Area seniors get free farmer's market check booklets

The El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging has a limited supply of Senior Farmers’ Market check booklets available for qualified El Dorado County seniors. Each eligible senior will receive one booklet that includes five checks redeemable for $4 each to be used at Certified Farmers’ Markets for the purchase of fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, cut herbs and raw unprocessed honey.

On Friday, the popular Ski Run Blvd market opens for their seventh season at 3:00 p.m. Food, crafts, fruit and vegetables will be featured in the middle of the block in front of Blue Angel Cafe. The 144 pro cyclists (18 teams) in the 8-day race aim to consume the same amount of calories they burn on the bike, which at Amgen, depending on the length and toughness of the day, can be anywhere between 4,000 to a whopping 8,000 calories!

Bread & Broth 4 Kids is holding their second Cram-A-Cruiser event at the Grocery Outlet on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The non-profit fills up bags of food every Friday for 120 South Lake Tahoe children who are in need of extra food over the weekend when they aren't able to receive the free lunches and breakfasts offered at school.
A South Lake Tahoe Police car will be in the parking lot in front of the store and the object will be to fill it up with as much food as possible that will be going into the kid's bags.

“We love helping with the great folks at Bread and Broth,” commented volunteer Jacalyn Andrews. “It warms your heart to be involved with serving a hot meal.”
Jacalyn is a Game Supervisor at Caesars’ Stateline casinos and she and her fellow HEROs volunteer crew members had a great time at the Harrah’s/Harvey’s HEROs Adopt A Day dinner.
'Dough' opens in the Chateau, bringing fast, casual pizza to South Lake Tahoe

"Fast casual pizza is picking up across the country," said Baker. "I thought it'd be a good idea here."
Dough just opened on Saturday, February 13 and they've been hopping sever ince.
"The best thing about our pizza is that you don't have to share," added Baker.
Legendary Tower of Power to headline 2016 Concert Under the Stars benefit for Greenhouse Project

South Lake Tahoe woman facing brain cancer with friends, family and hugs

Those powerful words come from South Lake Tahoe local Krista Kline Carson.
The 1989 South Tahoe High graduate, wife, mother and wellness coordinator for Barton University, is battling cancer after a tumor removed from her brain was found to be Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, one of the fastest growing brain cancers. On Monday, January 18 she begins a six week regime of radiation and chemotherapy.

This effort centers around helping the 49 million Americans, including 16 million children and 5.3 million seniors who face hunger in the U.S.
On November 9th, the South Lake Tahoe Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. office sponsored a Bread & Broth “Adopt A Day of Nourishment”, organized by Rick Gross, to join this nationwide effort to feed the hungry.

Thanks to the Moose Lodge’s generous donation, the 91 folks who came for dinner were served baked salmon with orange sauce, spaghetti with red sauce, a mixed green salad, a lovely strawberry/cantaloupe salad and a wide assortment of desserts. Although heaping servings were doled out during the first serving at 4:00 p.m., 27 diners returned for the 5:00 p.m. “second” serving of this tasty and nutritious dinner.
South Lake Tahoe breast cancer survivor shares her story
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 3:14pmSeptember 11 evokes a different meaning to South Lake Tahoe resident Christine O’Farrell. In 2002, on the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Christine was on the operating table at Barton Memorial Hospital facing a new threat: cancer.
Christine had been diagnosed with an aggressive case of breast cancer. At the time, she was 42 years old and working at Barton’s Home Health and Hospice for quality assurance and infection prevention. Her three children were 14, 12, and 9.
