Douglas County man arrested in child abuse case; Infant dies

1/10/15 11:45 a.m. update - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a child abuse case involving a 2 month old infant.

On January 10, 2015 at 12:48 a.m., the two month old infant was taken off life support and died. The cause of death is pending autopsy.

Suspect Trent Getty was located in Sacramento, California at a Greyhound Bus Depot and was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department. Suspect Getty is in custody in the Sacramento County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Douglas County, Nevada.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is searching for a 23-year old man suspected of severely injuring his two-month old child.

The suspect, Trent Getty, took his unresponsive baby to the Carson Valley Medical Center on January 7 just after 2 a.m.

According to investigators, the infant appears to have suffered substantial injuries that are the result of traumatic abuse and are inconsistent with the statement given by Getty regarding how the injury occurred.

A warrant of arrest was issued for Getty, and his bail has been set at $1 million dollars.

Getty is currently outstanding and avoiding law enforcement. He is believed to be in Reno, although his exact location is unknown. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Getty is asked to call DCSO dispatch at 775-782-5126.

Getty is described as: male, Caucasian, 23 years-old, approx. 6ft-1in tall, weighing 170lbs, short-cropped red hair, green eyes, and having numerous facial tattoos. A photograph of Getty is included with this release for reference.
